Central Florida is seeing this springs crop of Lovebugs again. These perpetually mating insects cause billions of dollars of paint damage a year on cars, in my driveway alone. I hate 'em. But, they're better than blizzards or earthquakes.

When I was a kid living in Florida the adults called them "telephone bugs" because they would "hello and hang up". I didn't get it until a couple years later...

Hated those things when I lived on the gulf coast of Texas. I much prefer it here in Colorado where we pretty much don't have any sort of insects.

Many years ago I worked for a while on the Caribbean coast of Colombia, in a city called Barranquilla, for a short time. The amazing thing was that there were no flying insects there. Most houses didn't even have glass or screening on their windows. Usually just open masonry latticework to keep unwanted visitors out. Probably the most delightful climate on earth, except during the rainy season. No one had heating or air conditioning, not really needed.

They are not nearly as bad as when I moved here. In the early '80's if you drove over to Melbourne, you'd have to stop more than once and clear the windshield. And in an afternoon rain the mush would be horrendous. I guess that's one benefit of "development." Joe

Seems they were a lot worst a few years ago.

I'd drive from Palm Coast 20 miles to St. Augustine to work and have to clean my windshield off when I got there. Actually kept a bottle of Windex and a roll of paper towels in my Jeep.

You do have to get them off paint ASAP. I'm always cleaning the fairing on my bike during love bug season.

Been here for 32 years now, but their not as bad as they used to be. It was so bad many folks would spray Pam cooking oil on their vehicles the windshield was another story. As years go by, they seem to be less each year (thank God). Guess we have to pay in some way for the nice weather and "not" shovling snow.
