I finally decided to get my thumb out of my touch hole, and do two first's at once today. My first non-1911' hi-cap auto (ever) and my first 9 M.M. ever. Both on the same day! I'm feeling the need to breathe deeply into a brown paper bag now? Anyway, it's an M&P9c. Haven't noodled with the changeable back straps yet, but I suspect that like the 1911's, I'll end up happiest with the one closest duplicating an arched main spring housing. Questions for the collective Forum brain.
1- Is the thing supposed to come with two different style magazine base plates, one slightly extended for fourth finger purchase, the other, with about 3/16" worth of flat end cap?
This example has NOT got the optional mag drop safety, or the optional (required by some PD's) 10 # trigger rate.
Also, ANYONE who doesn't clean and inspect their new gun before range use is a moron! There's a lot of production crud floating around in it, and I'd like to make sure all the chips and flakes are out of it pre-firing.
I decided to pass (temporarily) on the factory listed night sights. They're not common, and tough to find. After an E mail to Truglo a few weeks ago who assured me that the M&P line is to be added to their fiberoptic/Tritium production in 09', I decided to wait for a more 24/7 type of front blade.
2- Is the magazine rebate good ONLY for the specific round count of magazine shipped WITH the gun. Or, could mine be used to get two full length examples for the full size M&P 9's?
Anyone with ANYTHING to say, positive OR negative about the gun, is welcome to respond. If you think the lines of folks trying to buy Ar's, AK's, and the like were long, you shoulda' seen them lined up (30 booths in operation, 16 people waiting in line to use them!) after being assigned numbers and a two hour wait for range slots?

Hi Spotteddog.
I bought the M&P 9c about a month or so ago, and a 642 for my wife.
Mine also came with the two different mags.
As for the rebate, I can't help you there as I'm opting for the cash back.
Here in S.C., we just had a tax free weekend on firearm purchases. I was at the dealer to pick up a 642 for myself on Saturday. VERY busy.

Thanks Jack!
Your state obviously has a governor who's not as tax hiking a lunatic as ours?
Can't wait to scuff some of the square edges off of her. But I sure as Hell wasn't going to stand in a premiere movie release like line, in order to do it! And the hordes now lining up at the range, well and truly look very unfamiliar with things that make loud noises out of one end? And everyone and their unemployed brother is trying to drag in a 7.62X39 of one kind or another to test the range armor with. I wouldn't want to have to be a R/O for the last few weeks. And for the next few months, either!

If you download the rebate coupon from S&W it allows you to specify exactly which magazines you want.

Download the coupon like cowart said and specify the full size mags. There's a guy on the M&P forum that sells sleeves that make it like a full size grip. My brother has the M&P40c with that setup and it nice. I have the full size M&P40 and almost wish now that I had went the route my bro went.
ps. you will LOVE the M&P!

Thanks Briar, I did just what Cowart said.
I saved the link to the outfit (magazine sleeves to adapt full to compact) that Wyatt Earp posted a bit ago in our semi-auto section as well.
Now if I can just find a time when a bench is open at the range? It's been freakin' NUTS there!
(Edit- Sorry? Should have posted this!)

Well, finally got a range slot. Sales are incredibly brisk, even at lunatic gun shop ammo price points (IE: $42.00 for 50 W W/B .45ACP 230 FMJ's!). Folks are still hauling in their 7.62X39's and carton after carton, of Wolf stuff to feed them. Still a carnival atmosphere, but slowing some as X-mas approaches.
I had 200 9MM 115 grn. FMJ W W/B from Wally's and the new M&P9c to try out. I'll confess a bit of trepidation anytime I get outside my area of confidence. And I was WAY outside it with this? This wasn't a 1911', it wasn't a .45 and it was a striker fired. I was also completely prepared to to hate the things stacky long stroke trigger, it's new 90 degree edge that made the slide stop hard to trip, and after all, the G/D things made of plastic! I just knew it was going to suck, and I'd long regret the purchase? Filled the first mag with it's twelve (the one with the finger groove addition), the second (flat based) 12 rounder, then started trying to hit something @ 50 feet. Well, I hated the trigger until I doped it out on the second mag, but then the trigger's break started to improve? I hated the fact that the damned barrel was so short, till it started hitting inside the eight ring all on it's own? Now REALLY disliking the gun, I purposely limp wristed it, daring it NOT to fail! Just to piss me off, it kept running? I moved the reverse B-27 in to 10 yards and decided this little turd is gonna' cough to a halt any second now, and leave me serene in the certainty of knowing that they suck, they always have sucked and always will suck! After the third magazine full not leaving the X or 10 rings, and the thing hotter than a pop corn fart, I ran out of ammo.
Now this thing is REALLY pissing me off!
It shot where it was aimed. It's trigger quality improved the more it was shot. The slide release got easier the more it was shot. And it never missed a beat even when trying to induce a jam when brand new.
In short once again, all my preconceived notions and buyers remorse had to be tossed into the S**T can! God! I HATE when that happens?
It's a fine gun.
(It coulda' at least jammed once? Just to make me feel a little better!)

My ex-wife was at your range?
