Went to the gun show, looking for another P&R revolver. Came home with an M&P 15-22.

I had a bodyguard assignment today, picked up some cash, and on the way home I called Missus P&R Fan and asked if she cared if I stopped at the gun show. She said, "sure, you've worked hard, you deserve it". (I love that Woman). I was looking for another revolver, preferably an older Pinned and Recessed one, (after all, I'm the P&R Fan). Everything was way overpriced. Then I saw an M&P 15-22 laying there for $399. I got it and a spare mag for $440 OTD. Now I gotta learn about it. I've seen lots of threads on here, but usually ignored 'em, I'm a revolver guy. So I have some questions:
First, why is CCI Stinger ammo not to be used in it? Not that I really need to use that ammo, but I just don't understand.
Second, the manual says not to dry-fire it, as it can hurt the firing pin. I understand, and have known for years not to do that with a .22 rimfire. Will it hurt it if I hold the bolt back away from the chamber and snap it? I really don't want to leave it cocked.
Third, what ammo works best in it? I have thousands of rounds of .22 LR ammo. What should I shoot in it?
And finally, fourth, I have read this is the ULTIMATE Zombie rifle. There has to be a specific Zombie load, please tell me which one.

So I have some questions:
First, why is CCI Stinger ammo not to be used in it? Not that I really need to use that ammo, but I just don't understand.

The case length on .22lr CCI Stinger ammo is slightly longer than standard .22lr. It may or may not chamber properly in your 15-22.

My regular old 15-22 doesn't have an issue cycling CCI Stingers.

A 15-22 Performance Center Model (PCM) will have issues chambering CCI Stingers because the 15-22 PCM's increased accuracy is derived from tighter tolerances in the barrel's chamber & other tweaks.

That's what I do. I pull the charging handle back enough to contact the hammer, press the trigger, then ride the charging handle until the bolt is in the closed position.

I can also just push out the rear take down pin, hinge open the upper and lower, put my thumb on the cocked hammer to arrest it's forward movement & keep it from smacking the frame, pull the trigger, and slowly ride the hammer forward. Then I close her up.

Third, what ammo works best in it? I have thousands of rounds of .22 LR ammo. What should I shoot in it?

CCI Tactical .22lr. This ammo was designed specifically for the 15-22. It's never given me any issues.

Federal Bulk 36gr Copper Plated HP Bulk Brick Ammo. More affordable than CCI Tactical .22lr. My 15-22 has no issues cycling this ammo.

CCI Mini-Mag HP or Round Nose. Works all the time. Most expensive option.

Those are my top three choices. I've fired different .22lr out of it and had no real issues with any of the copper washed ammo. I haven't had issues with the harder LRN.

The only .22lr Ammo I stay away from like the plague is Remington Thunderbolt .22lr LRN. The lead is real soft on the projectile. That stuff leaded up the barrel on my Ruger MKIII real fast.

And finally, fourth, I have read this is the ULTIMATE Zombie rifle. There has to be a specific Zombie load, please tell me which one.

LOL. The CCI .22lr Tactical or Mini-Mag.

I have a lot of .22 LR ammo. Used to be every time I went to Scheels I would buy something gun or ammo related, often just some .22s if money was an issue. Now I think I'm gonna burn it up REALLY quick.
I've always been a firearms dinosaur. I like old stuff. This is the first new long gun I have ever bought. Have a feeling it won't be the last.

I never dry fire any of my guns,just don't seem right to pull the trigger when not shooting something.

+1 on the CCI tactical,thats all I've ever shot in my 15-22 and it's worked flawleessly for a couple thousand rounds.
