I was browsing Craigslist the other night and ran across an ad for a gun case sale.

Little did I know that the company that makes the Cabela's "Bullet Proof Gun Case" is within an easy drive from my house.

So, I moseyed over that way today and yep, they were selling the gun cases, and a few bow cases on the grass.

It seems they do this every 1st Thursday of the month, as long as the weather is nice. They sell seconds, dent and scratch, and overstock cases.

I picked up a couple of cases, a 2 pistol case and a rifle case. They were 79 dollars a peice, quite a markdown from what Cabela's charges for them. The rifle case is flawless and the pistol case has a tiny dent/scratch on it.

I may have to mosey over there again next month....

Here are the cases from Cabela's: Cabela's "Bullet Proof" Pistol Case

This is the company that makes the cases. Impact Case and Container

If you are within driving distance I would say give them a call next month and see if they are having a sale. It is hard to go wrong at this price.

The sales photo shows it to be a nice case. If I traveled a lot by airline, I would certainly buy myself one of them.

Yet I feel that to be pretty pricey for my needs. My handguns either sit in a safe. in a drawer. in a file cabinet or such when at the house. If I am going to the range, then they are in a range bag. If I am travelling by car, I keep my duty gun next to me.

I worry about things more than most. One of these things is a home burglary. I think if guns are in a suitcase, a thief takes the whole case for easier carry. Of course I worry about fire as well and not much other than a safe will cure that worry.

Now that you have the case, and I admit it seems to be a really nice case, I will ask the same question my wife would.

What are you you going to do with it?

The cases are for traveling. I have several trips coming up next year where I will be flying with guns. I figured I could get them now and save a buck or two or wait and possibly have to pay the full price or get a case that isn't made quite as well.

All of my gun cases sit empty at home, all of my guns except 3 or 4 of them are kept in the safe at all times.
