What are your preferences on 22 ammo?

One of the supreme joys for me of shooting 22s is the quest for the right ammo. Over the years, I have found preferences abound for CCI Mini Mags - solid and HP, Win Super X HP, Wolf Match [or ditto SK Std +] and CCI Blazer. One rifle, a 10-22, loves old Rem Golden.

The search for 'best' 22 ammo [i.e., having the least cost/greatest benefit] in a given arm is splendid fun.

Cheers,

Dyson

Amen to that, Dyson!

I've got a giant pile of different .22s that I try through new guns. Every gun has its preference, that's for sure.

In days of yore, I used Remington green box target. It doesn't seem to be of the same quality nowadays that it was in the '80s.

For plinking, lately I have been very pleased with the consistency of the Federal AutoMatch bulk 40-grain RNLs in the 325-round box. It's been remarkably reliable and of perfectly decent accuracy.

Whatever provides reasonable accuracy and reliablity in the particular firearm.
One ammo may provide perfect reliability and accuracy in one gun and be horrendous in the next gun, even in the same make and model of gun. I often buy 2 of any gun that I like, so this comes up a lot more than you would think when it comes to RF firearms. Forces me to keep all kinds of RF ammo. I probably keep at least 15 different kinds for different guns. A big PIA, but necessary.

For bullsye pistol shooting from either my PArdini SP Walther GSP I prefer Wplf Match Target or SKJagd [istol match. For practise in these smae guns i use Aguila SE.
For general plinking with my 22 conversion units I use either the Aguila SE or if the unit requires a HV round then Federaal copper washed bulk pack or Remiongton Golden Bullets - for serious work with these same unitys I opt for CCI Mini Mags.

My Ruger single six will eat anything with no problem.....however my Browning SA .22 that is about 45 years old, does best with CCI Minis, PMC Moderators, which are sub-sonic, and Fiocchi HP or CRN.

I don't use my .22s for anything other than plinking. Honestly, whatever is cheapest is what I buy. I often end up with 40 grain LRN Remington Thunderbolts. My local gander mtn. has had .22s in stock constantly.

For plinking I'll use whatever is available or cheapest. Walmart bulk ammo flavor of the day is fine.

For hunting, I prefer CCI STINGERS or PMC Zappers.

My 22A does not like the Remington Golden Bullet bulk pack stuff too much. Never had a problem with the Winchester High Velocity Hollow Point or CCI Mini-Mags.

I shoot anything and everything, my 10-22 and Hi-Standard aren't picky. When I go for some tree rats (aka bushy-tailed squackers) I take CCI Stingers.

My Kimber likes RWS R50, but I don't like paying $18-20 per box, I get good results using Federal 714 that costs $18-20 per brick.

various .22 lr

have tried many different brands. my M22A, & Kimber target .22 (mini M1911)

seem to "like" the Federal #510 Lightnings.

and I agree with everyone who had problems with Remington Golden bullet.

now, If I could just find some pistol ammo.

RAW

For hunting, I prefer Eley standard. Second would be CCI, then Federal. Remington (especially yellow jackets) suck.
