Went to start reloading some 32-20 and the correct RCBS shell holder is a number one. I stuck this in my press and it's waaaay to big for a 32-20 case. Then, I realized that it's not even an RCBS shell holder. Anyone know what brand this is?

Just a wild guess… but perhaps Pacific Reloading #1, which is for rifle cartridges. Experts will be along soon.

Doh, why I couldn't come up with Pacific, I was thinking Pioneer, or something like that.
I looked up a Pacific chart and a number one fits a 308 perfect. Thanks!

I have often wondered why the different manufacturers couldn't use the same numbering system for shell holders. I guess that would make too much sense.:mad: Since Pacific was the company that originated that type shell holder their system would make most sense. But in reloading common sense is extremely un-common.

You will have to work it out backwards. Find a case that fits. Then go to the index in the back of the Lyman loading manual. The best cases to start with are the most common. 38 Special, 45 ACP, 44mag/45 Colt, 30-30, many rifles are the same as 45ACP!

It may be for the RCBS Priming Tool,,which is a remake of the orig Lachmiller Priming Tool (RCBS bought Lachmiller out).

The P is for Use in the Priming Tool (I think the tool takes special SHders).
R for the RCBS version of the priming tool as opposed to the nearly identicle appering Lachmiller tool.
Their SH design/attachment is slightly different than the orig Lachmiller version. The Lachmiller was a single primer inserted one at a time thing.
The RCBS tool was made to take a tube feed primer feed system to speed things up.
That deep slot in the bottom of the SH'dr hints that the holder was mfg'rd for a primer tube feed system.

1 is the cartridge head size.

Hows that for a WAG...!
Probably all wrong but it's the only thing I could come up with.

No the correct answer is Pacific. They invented 'em but RCBS perfected them and made them the big name. RCBS were the real gurus of reloading stuff. I have had a Rock Chuck Bullet Swage(what they were named for) press and dies since 1957/58 when I needed bullets for a Savage 340 22 Hornet. I even have a bunch of the upper rams for the old A presses where they were made for each caliber head size. And after RCBS started in the shell holder business they made their shellholder rams to fit other presses.
