Y'all will remember a while back I cheated death in the high branches, but at the same time ground up a pole saw cutting head (apparently their idea of "light" cutting and mine are worlds apart:rolleyes:) . I finally came to the conclusion that my 7 year old PoulanPro 3516 is a Papa Oscar Sierra as I can't get it to start, have taken it apart and can't put it together again-in other words, it wasn't working when I started on it, so I really couldn't make it any worse:D SO I have sdecided after much searching on the web tot buy a Husqvarna. What can y'all tell me about the 455 Rancher. Too much saw? Just abour right or can I get away with something lighter. remember my baseline is the Poulan 3516. It was a monsterous step up when I got it after having a little bitty 14" $109.00 green Poulan. Kinda like when I went from Windows 98 to VIsta. So is the 455 rancher far beyond what I really need, or should I say what the heck and buy it under the old saying too much power is better than not enough. Im not getting the 460 as it is too big. I really like the fetures the 455 has that the 450 doesn't and the rancher series is in the 3.5 hp range as opposed to the 2.5 range the "homeowners' saws are.

I have had a Stihl for almost 30 years and it STILL starts on the first or second pull. IMHO they are one of the best and I would highly reco. the Stihl over any other brand.

I did a graduate business school case study on the subject in 1984 at Texas A&M, and have lots of first hand experience with them since. The answer is Stihl.

Buy a stihl, you'll never look back. Put that Poulan back together and use it for target practice.

Me & Mrs. Hillbilly pulled up behind a pickup at a stop sign once.
The truck had a Snap-on sticker and a Stihl sticker in the back window.

Mrs. Hillbilly asked me "How do you pronounce that?"
Ever the smart-***, I told her "Snap-on."

She swore at me. :D

Thanks for the info on the Stihl-that farm boss looks pretty sweet and I can get it at the John Deere place around the corner from the office-plus is is a few bucks cheaper than the Husky. But what about this bad boy........can get it with up to a 50" blade Bayou Tractor Company, Inc - Franklin, LA 70538 Franklin - LA :D

Are you going to be taking down a few pine and oak around the bayou are going after first growth cypress in the swamp?

I have had a lot of tree work in my yard in the last 14 months thanks to a tornado blowing down over 30 trees. I did what I could with my old off brand chain saw but when I called the professionals I noticed they all used Stilhs.
If I was going to buy one tomorrow it would be a Stihl.
I have heard the Husqvarnas are good saws.

Can't go wrong with Stihl or Husky. Mine is the Husqvarna 357xp and it screams but will set you back over 600.00.

I'm a big Stihl fan myself. Mine is 14 years old and thrives on neglect. Husqvarna make a fine saw too. You'll be good to go either way.
