I am a revolver guy and mostly unfamiliar/confused with all the S&W current semi-autos. I gather this is a 9mm M&P (older first model ?) I really liked the feel of it and figured a Hi Cap 9mm might be a nice purchase. I was picking up my Heavy Duty .38 revolver at my FFL today and had them throw this into the system to also come home with me. I'm just looking for anything interesting or I might want to know from those of you to whom these are second nature.

I don't know other than its a M&P 1.0 9mm, but I'm really liking those fiber optic night sights. FYI, Trijicon night sights can be relamped when they get too dim. Contact Trijicon when needed. About half the cost of new.

Price depending looks good to me. I don’t have any if S&W modern semi autos so can’t judge.
But I (and I’m sure others) want to see pics of your new revolver both before and after you put a stunning set of your moose stocks on it !!!
Adding a question - how are you going to get elk grip panels onto that M&P ?

Yes, a full-size M & P 9 1.0 in FDE (flat dark earth).

The rear fiber optic sight has VTAC on the side; I seem to recall there was a special M & P version from the factory with it but am not that well versed on variations.

You will like it, I have put several thousand rounds through a similar gun and variations. It is easy to shoot and reliable.

Nice looking m&p. What to do to it ? Change the recoil spring and striker spring even though it looks like it has very little use or wear at least . IF you have the box the date it was produced will be on the end . If you want a different trigger design or liter trigger pull look to APEX tactical for parts to kits . I have 2 primary carry handguns and one is an 11 year old M&P 4.25 40 . Depending on extra mags maybe a few more . I have proven reliable carry mags and some that are only practice mags.

Nice FDE pistol. I’ve got a 2014 1.0 & a 2017 2.0. Both bought used. The 1.0 was bone stock, but the 2.0 had an Apex trigger and Trijicon night sights, both of which have been returned to stock. I seem to shoot better with the traditional shaped trigger than I do with the kind with the safety dingus in the middle. This night sights were nice, unfortunately the front has a red circle around the glow dial and it kept washing out against brown and red targets.
My advice would be to run a few mags before changing anything which you probably already know. Also, there is an easy trigger job you can do to make the trigger smoother.

That's a S&W M&P VTAC 9mm from perhaps 2011 (s/n DYA90xx is not listed in SCSW 4th Ed.). It's a production pistol- actually just a standard 9mm M&P with Viking Tactical VTAC Warrior sights (current ~$200 value), in FDE, with interchangeable backstraps. This pistol was designed for LE use and seems to be popular and dependable. As others have noted, the only negative was the trigger. My son manages several gun stores, and he installed an Apex trigger in his VTAC that he routinely carries at work. I don't believe that VTACs are still in production. It would be a nice pickup if the price was right, maybe $400.

Ken- nice acquisition on a fairly unique and uncommon version of the M&P 9! I can’t wait to see how the stag grips you make for it turn out!!! LOLOLOLOL

Thanks for filling me in on this one. The price was "right" :). Hopefully it will shoot to point of aim and run enough mags without a hiccup. I'll find out the next time I'm out shooting at my "silver plate" plinking plates. I gave them a 90 degree bend. No matter how they bounce you have something sticking up to hit.

If it is a law enforcement model. It may have the mag disconnect. Which if I understand the gun will not fire if there is no magazine in the gun.

When the 2.0 [IIRC marked at $525] came out a LGS had a 1.0 in the case for $300 out the door.

Got it, mounted a weapons light and it serves as my "bump in the night"gun at the lake.

As a 3rd gen guy it's my "I don't care" Glock like hi cap utility gun!

I have a similar M&P 9 shield model, but bought it when I lived in CA so my choices were limited to the CA AG-approved roster. Mine differs in that it has a thumb safety and a grey finish. I did put in a new trigger set, as others have mentioned (I believe it isn’t necessary for the 2.0 and the plus). One other add on I did was Talon Grips. I love those and easy to apply.

well dont know 100% what your gun is , but I will say for sure its not a Browning high power as those can not go bang w/o the magazine inserted.

Viking Tactical is owned by retired special forces man Kyle Lamb, and he had input on the specs for the special M&P which uses his logo. You have one of those.

I have one in a 5" barrel with a safety on the slide. That one looks to be 4.25"ish. Love mine. Mine had white dots and I put TRUGLO on them. Then I put a Leupold Micro Deltapoint. Think I will go back to the regular TRUGLO.

M&P 9 with the safety on the slide??? Never knew there was such a beast.
