Hi,
I am thinking of picking one of these up pretty much for the Kid's to shoot, I have a Glock in a .22 LR, Some Revolvers in .22 LR and wouldn't mind adding a 1911 style.

Are they fairly reliable and decent shooters?
Are there better choices in the price range?
I can get one new for about $266.00

I have one of those but it's branded as Sig Sauer, ten years old and several thousand rounds through it. They were also sold under the name GSG, same gun, in fact they are the maker of it in Germany. Pretty accurate with the addition of the CW Accessories and once I got the sights changed, they included different front ones with the gun.

My slide is loose on the frame, Sig said I can send it in for work but I'm hesitant as it shoots fine. I understand that the slide lock notch is now reinforced, mine being an early one isn't and is pretty hammered up. I think they may have changed the slide from a cast material to billet aluminum but don't quote me on that, I'm definitely not sure. Wish I could find another slide, I procrastinated and didn't buy one from CW when they were available.

There is some interchanging possible with real 1911 parts, again, there's a lot on the Internet on,there. I have some Hogue grips on mine.

There are some specific to this gun aftermarket parts out there, one I recommend is the barrel link pin conversion. CW Accessories/Chet Whistle used to make and sell a whole line of accurizing parts but he now focuses on his own line of guns so there are some other companies out there offering similar products.

Two things, read the instructions regarding solvents on the finish, they may have changed it since mine was new but some will harm at least in my Gun's case the black finish. And don't do what I did with my barrel. It was pretty nasty inside so I let it soak overnight in Hoppe's No.9.oh it cleaned it well, but as a result the black coating on the barrel came off, it's now gray.

Thank you for the reply, I ordered one. I am not expecting a lot considering the price, I just want it to be a fun shooter for the kids, They like my 1911's but figured this would be cheaper to shoot.

My Oldest son and I took out the Mauser yesterday and it fired very well with random .22 LR rounds, My son had a few failure to fires but I am not sure if that was just the older ammo I was using. I had zero issues and I fired slow to rapid . I can not comment on accuracy and we just wanted to see if the gun would function. So Far I am happy with it.

I don't even know if they still offer them, but GSG used to offer a 22 conversion kit to fit a standard 1911 frame. I bought one second hand at a gunshow a few years ago for $165 IIRC. Easy to install and works great. Probably all the same parts as the Mauser minus the frame.

I have the Mauser version and am disappointed in the amount of hang ups. Need to use the CCI hotter ammo for it to work well. Also have the Bretta version, works great, as well as my FN version. Yes, I have three of the .22 copies, lots of fun.

I had a Colt a few years ago that was similar and very reliable…….for the price I'd buy it, good luck!
