Picked this up at a local gun show. It looks unfired. Beautiful...

I have 4" and 8 3/8" Mod 57 shooters. The 4" is incredibly accurate. I doubt if I'll shoot this one. It has been sitting around for almost 50 years without any evidence of being shot. There are the never ending discussions of to shoot or not to shoot. For now, I just want it to look pristine...

I don't blame you! Heckofa nice find.

Very, very very nice!
Some say too nice to shoot. I say a gun like that is like a bottle of Napoleon Brandy...Nice to know you own one, but there is a deeper satisfaction to know you have tasted it.
Some shooting is warranted. Or what is the point?

do what you want to with it, it belongs to you and it's still America,I think...A nice example for sure. I have a couple of the early model 57 no dash guns, a 4" and a 6" and both are accurate. Personally, I choose to shoot all of mine. Like someone stated earlier, if you don't shoot em' then what's the point? To me it would be like owning a fine 427/435 vette and never driving it!

I still have some bottles of wine and scotch that I've had for years. What if I die without ever drinking them???

Well, since scotch and wine don't age any more once they are bottled, no point in waiting! Nice 57 BTW.

Outstanding, you may be wondering about the case but it is the real deal. I have an early S prefixed 57 with the same type of case with the contact paper type covering and silk inside cover. Underneath that silk is cardboard built up to fit the gun. I would not store the gun in the case as the silk does not last long with the weight of the gun rubbing against it and the edges of the cardboard cutout inside.

Last I heard there was only about 10 of these types of cases known. They were an experiment that S&W decided quickly was a bad one.

And of course the Cokes are really nice. The whole package together is a rare thing indeed. Great find for sure.

..if it was mine...I can not fire something that old. Had several unfired nickel 70s vintage 57s a few years ago and passed them on to others just that way.

...and when was this one made...1964-65??

It`s only original once.
To shoot or not? I probably would not, especially since you and I both have other 57s to have fun with. Why destroy the uniqueness of this one?
I have a Colt New Frontier New in the original box it`s unfired and will stay that way- because I don`t need to shoot it-and I have so many other .22s that want shooting.
Nice find I`m glad for you.
