What do you think would happen to you if you 'lost' your M4 Carbine?

So they caught the guy who stole it, but didn't recover the M4. Those guys are issued the full auto model, and now some drug dealer has it.

Just wait till it is used in a drug crime. The median will be saying that these full auto weapons can be bought anywhere and every semi-auto "black rifle" will become a machine gun!

That may not be correct. It could be that they are select fire bit just as likely the author assumed since it's an AR "assault rifle" it has to be full auto. In fact I'm almost positive that's the case since ARs mainly cone with 3 round burst and not full auto.

This is the reason Philadelphia police stopped carrying shotguns in the driver compartment. When windows were left open shotguns had a tendency to walk away

According to the DHS's recent inventory, their agents lose on average, 5 guns per month, along with 42 badges lost per month.
So, besides a demerit in his folder, I'm sure he'll be fine.

Hundreds of DHS badges, guns, cell phones lost or stolen since 2012 | Fox News

My goodness, does DHS have a problem with hiring folks who understand how careful they must be with their issued equipment, or is this just one more sign of our new relaxed society?

I never lost, thank God, any department issued equipment. So, I have no idea what would have happened, except being highly embarrassed. If i had I would guess any punishment would START at 10 days off and go from there.

Not a rare occurrence from my experience. I recall several times the explanation was that most or many of the agents are on call 24/7 and prepare for it by having all necessary equipment readily available. I could not understand the situations where a agency radio or shield would also be taken with the weapons from a vehicle.

I can recall being part of a battalion of soldiers on line walking through the Lutzmannstein valley at Hohenfels looking for a "lost" M3A1 grease gun. It cost the tank commander involved one-half his base pay per month for two months, 45 days restriction and extra duty, and a bust of one stripe.

...and the subgun was recovered!

When I first opened the story all I could say was, "Dang, that DHS guy must be deep undercover with those tats".:D

I'm thinking that's not a picture of the DHS agent, I'm thinking that's the "local heroin addict" who is taking the blame for the theft. If that is the agent, then I say he looks like the type who probably sold the gun and set up the junkie. Oh! How politically incorrect of me! :D

I'm embarrassed to say, but I lost two portable radios. Laid them on the roof of the cruiser and forgot about them. The 1st one was a gimme for me, but the 2nd one I had to pay for.:o

Who did that?

For one--very stupid people in my area. An average of 4 toddlers die-per year here because parent "forgot" they had their child in a car. Mid-summer-windows up all the way. These idiots do that with dogs and cats too. One fairly recent case=officer left his K-nine in his SUV, mid-summer--dog died a bad and needless death.:(

Unrelated but do to very bad "parenting" several toddlers die of drowning hear yearly--because the parent was too lazy and or stupid, to keep an eye on their kid.

Yes, interesting how those who are on Active Duty for Uncle Sam get the book thrown at them for losing or just misplacing weapons, while those who just "work" for him get at most a slap on the wrist.

I lost my department manual one time. Cost me twenty bucks for a new one.
never lost anything important. One time my hat blew into the river. That me a buncha money for a new one.

Thankfully I never lost anything. But, two field-force supervisors--a Sarge and Lt.) were both busted to C.O.I, lost their pay--for walking into E-Dorm--where the worst of the punks call home. Both armed with A.R-and a .357. They apparantly came in through the back gate-where no control picket is--and thought they were bad ***-but soon learned different.
