I pulled all of the long guns out of one of the safes a couple of days ago to oil and wipe down, when I got to my old Winchester model 190 it dawned on me that I have had that rifle for a little over 50 years now...my Granddad gave me that gun in '72 or '73.

The old rifle has been shot many thousands of times but is still in very respectable shape and pretty much mechanically spot on!

What have you held onto the longest?

I have a s&w 32 long hand ejector I believe is about 53 vintage that I bought from a friend back in 63 that was my main defensive weapon for years. In those days where I live there wasn’t really much need to have a gun and sadly those days are gone.

Oldest: S&W Model 15 nickel, bought new at Circle Pawn in Houston in 1979. I bought it because all I owned was an 8 3/8 Model 17 and a resident of my apartment complex was not just murdered, but beheaded. Felt like I needed a bigger gun.

Honorable mention and a close second: S&W Model 63, bought at Triangle Gun Shop, Bellaire TX in 1980. Bought it for my girlfriend so she could shoot with me. We married in '81. We're still together. She's shot it about 5 times over the last 42 years.

Remington model 4 in .22 LR.

My granddad purchased this rifle in about 1917 here in Bentonville, AR for my dad, and dad gave it to me about 75 years ago. It's still in great shape today.

Mossberg “New Haven” (model 600) pump with rifle sights. Bought because police dept required you to carry your own shotgun but by the time I got out of the academy they decided to issue 870s. Paid $60 as I recall. Then when I wanted to try skeet shooting drove to Mossberg factory and bought a 28 inch barrel for $15.

RIFLE: Browning Belgian Safari Grade Mauser 30.06, with spectacular fiddleback stock, on my birthday August, 1973.

HANDGUN: S&W Model 19-3, .357 Mag, October, 1973.

SHOTGUN: Ruger Red Label, 20 gauge, blued receiver, fixed chokes IC/M, 28" tubes, very pretty wood, light weight, swings like it's a part of you, deadly on pheasants. Purchased in 1977 when it was first introduced.
