Hi dogdoc,

I don't know & am just surmising that this site generates a lot of posts. Each of these takes up space and eventually the biggest hard drive fills up. I'd guess too that if one searched on a particular topic and the board's 'puter had to sift through years of posts it would eat up CPU time. If a bunch of people did this at the same time.....Well a finite resource would seem....Finite.

My old posts also vanished.

The problem isn't the size of the Admin's hard drives.

If it was that simple, I'd go out and purchase a couple of those new super-duper 1TB drives and drop them off to The Administrator.

The problem is bandwidth on a server and keeping it available to everyone, while trying to keep costs down.

All those old post take A LOT OF MONEY to keep available.

Ever stop to think that this site, with all the old post on it stretching back...I think about three/four years at one time...would be much larger than just about any corporate business site (that doesn't contain a forum of their own) that you can think of? Now, this wouldn't include "networking business" sites of course.

A little "fat" really needed to be trimmed to get some very large (I'm guessing) costs cut down to size that none of us would pay every month.

Anyway, if that was what it took to get it down to a manageable cost- I'm in support of it.

I'm just thankful there isn't any advertisements on here.

Still, I wish I'd have "saved" my old posts, and those that were very informative.

I guess I need to go and buy one of those 1TB drives then, and "back up" what I like, eh?

Too much work...I've got a headache thinking about it.

However, I would like to go on record as saying, that, if donations were to become taken again,- I'll be in line to give in order to keep the forum "ad free."

They were. Andy Griffith answered it nicely. Lee/handejector, the owner admin called it pruning. Cost saving measure.
