The 6mm Remington is a better ctg., but you can't get it in as many rifles, and ammo is harder to find. For practical purposes, the .243 is a fine compromise deer-varmint load.

I think it's especially well suited for small deer and coyotes, bobcats, and similar varmints.

You have some nice rifles. :)

I don't hunt, so the .243 suits my recoil sensitive shoulder just fine.

If I wanted an all around hunting cartridge I would likely go with the 7x57 Mauser, as it is intermediate between the .243 and the more powerful .270/.308/.30-06

My favorite is my little Remington model 600 in .243. Fine shooting little rifle with no recoil short enough to carry through the brush.
