What is is with all these brown FDE finish firearms?

I must admit I had never heard of FDE, but after "googling" it, I think such a gun finish may be a spinoff of the "junior sniper" fad that's so popular at the moment.

I didn't like them either and prefer beautiful high polished blue with walnut furniture but those guns are scarce and pricey these days. I have one AR that has a gray Magpul stock and pistol grip and I have a Mossy Oak camo take down Ruger 10/22 just for something different but everything else I have is traditional. I've seen a few of the FDE color guns with black accent parts that look O.K. but they don't really get my blood pumping and I wonder what the FDE guns look like when they get some extensive wear?

I believe it's a result of one of the Army's requirements for a new pistol, "won" by SIG. ;)

Once the manufacturers had spent a lot of development money, they're not going to let it go to waste.

In pictures I saw of the Glock 19X, I didn't care for the color at all. Then I saw and held one, and bought it immediately.

Ya never know.

I don't care much for the full coverage FDE but a half and half version doesn't bother me.

On long guns, FDE makes a fine base for a camo paint job. I briefly had a PSA AR with the mid-length gas tube and stainless barrel, FDE furniture. A friend's daughters got it and "faux" painted it with Krylon camo colors and sponges. It looks great, and has accounted for five coyotes so far.

And even worse, many models charge extra for it.

Well of course! It's tacticool.:D

I suspect a whole bunch of these FDE frames were made before the army competition was decided. May as well use them for something.

I happen to like it. The fact that others don't happen to share my opinion concerns me not at all! :)

Have a nice day!

Maybe it's just the lighting, but that looks more like orange than FDE.

Would I buy one? Probably not. Am I glad they are available? You bet. The more variety of firearms available to satisfy individual interest the better.

100% agree w the above statement
they are becoming more prevalent, you see them at the rang and in the gun cases of your LGS.

This means there is a market for FDE , because people are buying them.
I feel that "all-responsible" adults should own & carry a gun.
keyword ... responsible.....

I have a P220 Sig with a FDE finish. The dealer couldn't sell the ugly thing and I wanted a .45ACP for concealed carry and he sold it to me at a bargain just to get his money back. I would be ashamed to open carry it but it is a shooting piece of plunder. It feeds my handloaded 200 gr.SWC just as good as ball ammo. Larry

I don't have a problem with the color on a plastic gun. It's a neutral color so what's to find annoying about it. I don't have any that color and certainly wouldn't pay extra for it but if I otherwise wanted a gun it wouldn't dissuade me.
