I'd like to get a revolver that can shoot 9mm luger.

It's the cheapest centerfire round out there, and I have a good stock of it.

I have a Ruger LC9 which I like, but it's too small to make a good range gun.

I could get a larger 9 mm pistol, but living in California I just can't bring myself to buy a gun limited to 10 rounds when the same gun can handle 17 (or whatever) everywhere else. I just don't like government emasculated guns.

Besides, I like revolvers more than pistols anyway.

Ruger makes a convertible 357 which comes with a 9mm cylinder.

I can't find any 9mm revolvers on the Smith & Wesson site.

Charter Arms makes a small frame 9 mm DA revolver, but it may not be CA approved. S & W made the J frame 940 and the K frame 547, and Ruger the SP-101, but you would have to find one already in state for sale. The Ruger Convertible may be your best bet (also if legal).

All show-up now and then on the Internet sites like Gunpoker, but.....you will likely have trouble getting someone to ship to Kalifornia and open your wallet pretty wide as well if they will.

The 940 has been pretty available at an average price of "around" $900. I also saw a SP101 go on there for closer to $700 a short time back. Both take the same moon-clips. Have not seen that many Taurus 905's. They seem to build a gun for a while....stop building that gun....then start all over again. I also understand the clips are not that durable as well, but I've never owned one....just repeating what I've read. If you could find a 905, it would likely be your most economical route and reliability may be "iffy". I am not a Taurus basher, but my success-results with their new gun purchases runs around 50/50 in my experience. Most of the time (in my case) you have to fix what you get, or send it home. That is not always a pleasant experience either.

S&W made what is in my opinion the best 9mm revolvers in the two versions of the model 547. No moon clips required:

3-inch Round Butt (original grips not shown).

4-inch Square Butt.

The money you'd save on ammo, however, could be overspent by either of these two revolvers, they're pretty expensive when you can find them.

9mm revolver

I have a 940 and have carried it and shot it quite a bit......I like the clips for rapid reloading.....I have used those a lot in 45 acp revolvers.....and I really like them for the j frame as well....I have a lot of 9mm ammo and brass, and I shoot a lot of 9mm auto's, so the revolver for me was a no brainer.....I have used it a lot as a training platform for new shooters, moving them up from 22's.....it has worked well for me.

loc n load: Hi again, how does the 940 do on PPC? Sorry, had to do that! By the way, is there anything you don't shoot? Stay safe partner.

P.S. That Ruger Alaskan .44M snub is working out great.

All is well brother....glad the Ruger is working out okay.....I haven't tried PPC with the 940...but I think the little bugger would do just fine....that 9mm would be a lot flatter at 25 & 45 yds than the 38 wc's.....and if it launches a bullet, I shoot it.....my shooting interests are pretty diverse.....stay safe.
