And on that note lets be a little more careful on giving possibly, well not possibly but totally, illegal advise.
Having said that unless the weapon in question is a double or single barrel most manufactures offer 18 and 20 in replacement barrels. They normally fit without modification and can transform a wingshooting shotgun into a passible defensive weapon.

It is not illegal to cut off a shotgun barrel if the minimum barrel and overall length requirements are met. It is very important to know how to properly measure barrel length on a repeating shotgun. Most people don't. Allow at least a half inch extra just to be sure you are legal.
