I traded one box of American Eagle .357 Magnum (50 rounds) for two 25 round boxes of the Aguilar and I am glad to know what I got. Thanks!
Looks like it will turn my 20 gauge target shotgun into a reasonable self defense weapon at across the room or down the hall distances - Heaven Forbid!
It will be fun to pattern at 5 and 10 yards to see how it will behave in a home defense scenario. My guess it that a single round placed center/upper torso would be very effective. The major downside, of course, is that it is relatively difficult to move around inside a dwelling carrying a shoulder fired gun with a 28" barrel.

#3 buckshot has a nominal diameter of 0.25" or 1/4". Should be pretty effective for defensive use at close range.

And on that note lets be a little more careful on giving possibly, well not possibly but totally, illegal advise.
Having said that unless the weapon in question is a double or single barrel most manufactures offer 18 and 20 in replacement barrels. They normally fit without modification and can transform a wingshooting shotgun into a passible defensive weapon.

It is not illegal to cut off a shotgun barrel if the minimum barrel and overall length requirements are met. It is very important to know how to properly measure barrel length on a repeating shotgun. Most people don't. Allow at least a half inch extra just to be sure you are legal.

Have it professionally done so the final result is what you want. The alternate barrel is often the winning choice, as you can have a better sight, etc. I'll admit I can't conceive of a use for a barrel longer than 18", but I know that's a bias based on my background.
FWIW, if you take a static position that allows you to maintain control of the places you consider to be "no-go" zones, the barrel length may not be as much of an issue.

Just wanting to clarify something. People seem to have this idea that Bird Shot isn't Lethal. Some think it could be a less lethal HD ammo and some think that only buckshot can be used for Self Defense.
Folks, at distances under 25 feet or so the shot string produced by a load of Bird Shot behaves in a manner that is almost like a solid mass. If someone is hit with a 1" ball of shot traveling at 1200 fps the results will range from immediately Lethal for a body shot to removing limbs or extremities.

As post 14 stated it's not illegal to cut a shotgun barrel. The plus side of cutting a barrel is that a hacksaw is cheaper than buying another barrel.
If a person can't afford a hacksaw maybe they have a friend that will loan one too them and they can really save money

My understanding is that the proper way to measure is from inside the barrel to a closed bolt parallel to the bore. With the bolt closed if you can stick an 18 inch rod straight down to a closed bolt face and any of the rod sticks out you are now in NFA territory. If you ever plan to take possession of a shotgun with a barrel close to 18 inches, good advice is to measure twice before you do. 18.5" is in my comfort zone. 18.125" is not.
Former law enforcement guns should be checked extra careful. Nobody at the station house cares if a duty shotgun measures just shy of 18 inches. But a civilian caught with a surplus duty gun measuring 17.9 inches could be in for a world of easily avoidable hurt.
