What is wrong with the History Channel?

Over the years I have loved watching the History Channel, but I have noticed that now it is less, well, history. From UFO files, to Monsters to life after people, there seems to be less and less shows related to history. I even noticed that on Memorial Day that are running a marathon of Monsterquest. What happened to when they used to put stuff on for the troops? I still enjoy watching shows like Axe Men and Ice Road Truckers, but even those are not really history shows.

I feel the same. No more Mail Call, Wild West Tech or any thing 'History' to watch. Seems like they want to get a younger market or some thing. Once in a blue moon they do show some good shows but 9 times out of 10 it is a old one I have seen. I have History Channel International and that is not to bad but I fear soon it will change. I spend more time watching the Military Channel, OLN, Discovery and Pentagon Channel and see more historical based shows from them.

I think History Channel has about ran out of steam. All the great shows on there are pretty old now and have been shown over and over.

I'm proud of TCM this weekend - they are showing classic war movies.

IIRC, Wild West Tech is on Saturday Morning @ 0900

Same here. A lot of the new shows just suck. I don't watch Ax Men, Ice Road Truckers, UFO Files, or Monster Quest. Could care less about any of these shows.

I agree, Military Channel has way more shows that I am interested in. Weapon Masters, Patton 360, Battlefield, Commanders at War, etc. Doing DaVinci on Discovery is also quite interesting.

You are correct sir. These are not new shows. Re-runs only.

When most of your shows have the line, "Is it possible that...."

You're the SciFi Channel and not the History Channel.

My biggest complaint with the History Channel are the "ads"...they've become longer and longer as the years have progessed. Remember TV ads when we were kids? Pure torture now waiting the 5 minutes to get back to content.

"Once again,
As I recall "History" (when & why did they stop calling it "The History Channel"?) is owned by NBC, which in turn is owned by General Electric. That should explain why the military & weapons stuff isn't there anymore. Not very "Green" or "PC". What a shame. I sure miss "Mail Call" and of course the "Story of the Gun" shows.

I'm a History Channel fan also. I agree with what you guys are saying. Tonight nothing but Monster Quest reruns.

I ended up watching Andy Griffith on the TV Channel. I watched one episode I don't remember seeing before.

Old age has some benefits.

BTW......welcome sfa

a lot of it seems to be repeats. my cable provioder has an onscreen description and the year shown, never seems like its 2009 or even 2008 lately.

the still show the "sharpshooter" shows and history's lost & gfound is on at odd AM hours.

i am glad they show Band of Brothers unedited for 12 hour blocs on Memorial day weekend.

wild west tech is on saturday AM. David Carradine is looking raggedy

and they just had an interesting story about Billy The Kid.

i think they got tired of being called the "Hitler Channel" for a few years it seemed it was all WWII, all the time

mail call is the shiznit

i am fascinated with the UFO stiff and bigfoot phenomena, but an hour how to never prove it exists gets old. now, if they want to pay me and some pals to go camp in the nor-cal woods for a few weeks with a bunch of neat techno gear and up-armed, i wouldnt trun them down !

As bad as television has been....well, since forever, it's gotten a whole lot worse over the past coupe of years. And it's not just the History Channel. They're all @50% commercials now, and the commercials are targeted to the demographics by the cable providers. Complete garbage on the pay-re view and "premium" channels, with rare exceptions such as HBO's Deadwood and of course the all-night poker-fests on ESPN. More openly gay channels and programs than you can shake a stick at; the whole thing has become, well....just plain pussified. Nothing but yacking heads spouting the party lines and talking over each other on the all-news programs, especially on FOX. I dunno, it's probably time for my tin foil hat, but I'm about fed up with the whole enchilada. TV's not the only game in town. I'm mad as hell, and I'm just not gonna take this any more! Heck, I might even turn the darned thing off. -S2

LHC (lack of history channel)
I seldom see TV anymore working a modified 2nd shift 6 days. On the rare occasions I do, I have to remind myself of why I have one at all? Were it not for the cable/phone and internet being one bundled service I'd s***can the whole thing!
The only character flaw I've ever known my Wife to possess, is being unable to give up so called "prime time" programming. For me it's easy. At the time I can see anything it's 23 home shopping channels, 3 local government, 3 C-SPAN, and the ever present late night Extenze commercials! I'm sick of watching what they think Columbus Ohio is going to look like 200 years after people disappear for some unknown reason?
