I'd be interested in what handgun people keep for home defense.

I'm talking a gun kept in the night stand, biometric safe, sofa cushion, desk drawer, etc.

I have a new GP100 on the way, but don't have it yet.

If it shoots OK when I get it, I'll probably use it for this purpose.

38 special, +P, no lock. Or 357.

It's a 4 inch, blue model.

Big and heavy, it should be easy to shoot.

I have another option -- a 686 no dash, but it's a 6in and hasn't had the M mod done to it.

I keep a 28-2 6" on my wife's side of the bed loaded with Speer Gold Dot .357 and a model 36-1 3" loaded with Hornady Critical Defense .38 with me always.

love my handguns but would choose win 97 12 ga or sxs coach gun in 12 for home defense.
over penetration of bullets is my biggest concern ,with neighbours on all sides and my son across the hall. birdshot at close range will still make a strong statement without endangering anyone else next door or a block away.

Depends. Either a 2.5" Mod. 66, a 1911, or a 642 in my bedside table drawer. Now somebody is going to tell me that alternating firearms is risky and violates the laws of nature in some manner:eek: I say to each his own.

Chief Specials set next to our night stands. A CS9, and CS40. Fast handling and plenty of punch!

A Browning HP on my nightstand and a 19-3 in the nightstand drawer and a Sig P-230 on my wife's nightstand. All the children are grown and gone, so everything is in condition 1. We live out in the country, so if a home invasion ever occurs we will have to deal with it way before the 15 to 20 minutes before the sheriff's department arrives.

Colt 1911 Commander, .45ACP, Wilson Combat grip safety, Carbon Creations carbon fiber grips in matte finish, arched and serrated MSH (metal), Chip McCormick Power 10 magazine.

What ever gun I'm carrying goes on my nightstand when I'm sleeping.
But I keep my gun safe in my bedroom a few feet from my bed. so I would have lot's of choice if the you know what would hit the fan.

Model 67 4" which was an old CHP trade in. I bought it for a very reasonable price years ago specifically for home defense. The longer I've had it the more I like it.

I just purchased my first gun a few months ago, so I don't have a huge selection to choose from but, I keep the Glock 23 handy for home defense. It's loaded with .40 cal hollow points. I'm looking at getting a 1911 or a P226 next, but the Glock will likely stay in the nightstand.

Wife has her Crimson Trace gripped S&W Model 681 loaded with Speer 135 grain Gold Dot .357 Magnum Short Barrel loads. Mine is whatever carry gun I was carrying. The ATI-stocked Ruger Mini-14 .223Rem/5.56X45mm with two 20 round mags of Hornady 55 grain VMAX ammo is close by.

Sig Sauer 1911 Stainless with Crimson Trace laser grip and a magzine full of Hornady Zombie Max hollow points.

I have a 642 .38 Spl in the nightstand but I also have Mossberg 590A1 next to the bed. I have an M&P Shield in the office. Oh, and a 12 gauge coach gun next to my recliner.
