if faced with sub-humans attacking you what do you prefer?

the true 10mm loadings refered to as "full power"? if so what brand, what bullet weight?

how about the off the shelf reduced velocity stuff by federal and the like?

hand loaded choices?

mind you im NOT asking for a general use round or "in case im in bear country" stuff.

what say you?

I don't own one, but looking at the performance level of the load, would seem to indicate virtually any decent bullet you connected well with, would certainly get the job done! It's quite a load...

Years ago when I carried a Delta Elite, it was stoked with 175gr Silvertips.
Today I favor 180gr Gold Dots @1100fps in that gun.
My Glock 20 carries Double Tap 135gr @1600fps.

When I carried a 10mm for social reasons, I carried the 180 grain Hydroshocks, one of the 10mm Lite loads but recovery was much quicker and it was still 180 grains at about 1000 fps.

While it's not exactly what you're looking for, a .38-40 with a 180 grain .401" bullet at 1000 fps gives a power factor of 180 and muzzle energy of 400 ft-lb. You are, of course, restricted to Colt SAA's and New Services and early N-frames for handguns.

i guess i see the allure of the 10mm reduced power loads to some. they can have .40s&w powered rounds so they can handle a criminal encounter better but switch to true 10mm power rounds for hunting or paper punching where less skill wont get you killed.

Well, since we're talking about sub-humans, I would probably select some heavy duty loads:

i like the Win STHP. it is a good weight and zips by at over 1,200 f.p.s.

but ive found that Double Tap is a little cheaper so ive ordered two boxes of their 165grain stuff to test. i might bump up to their 180grainers though....depends....

Haggis,
Isn't it neat to know that it took them nearly 100 years to duplicate it!
N4Z,
That's some dangerous lookin' stuff?
Don't put an eye out!

I carry a G29 and it's loaded with Georgia Arms 180-gr Gold Dot ammo. Chrono'd thru my short barrel they consistently do 1185-fps with less than 7-fps SD. It's actually a little faster than they advertise on their packaging.

My second choice would be 175-gr Silvertips.

Cocked & Locked,

have you compared the DT 165gr vs. the 180gr?

i normally lean to the heavier stuff but wasnt sure how much more the kick would be with the 180gr. i do want to continue to do quick pairs with accuracy.

What kind of bullet is DT using in that 165 gr. offering? IMO 165 grs. is heavy enough given the bore diameter and velocity 10mm offers. As long as the bullet design/construction is suited to the 165 gr. weight, I wouldn't want a heavier bullet.

Originally I carried DT 165 Gr. Golden Sabers in my 10's. Since DT stopped making those I switched to the 165 Gr. Gold Dots for spring, summer, fall.
In winter I carry the DT 180 Gr. loading.

Recoil, to me, is not different but the 180 Gr. loads are a teensy bit more accurate out of my Dan Wesson CBOB and G-20.

Really, you can't go wrong with 10MM. Especially with "fully loaded" ammo like DoubleTap's.

I just bought some double tap 165 gn jhp rated at 1400 fps. havent shot them yet but seems to be a good bullet weight and good velocity.

I have been using 180gr Hydro-shock and 180gr Fed. I also tried some 135gr cor-bon,I was looking on the net and found that People are liking Double Tap stuff. So I ordered some 180 and 230 gr loads. I went out to compare loads, I must say I am hooked on the Double Taps.... love the accuracy and the punch of the Taps. Those 230gr are a "blast" too shoot. My 1006 loves them. DTs are a great bang for the buck.
BTW
DT just raised their prices.
