What kind of gun did the Cincinnati shooter use...

Friom the news:

"Cincinnati Police Chief Eliot Isaac said Friday that the 9mm semi-automatic pistol was purchased legally on Aug. 2 from a local gun store. Nothing in Santa's medical or criminal history prevented him from buying the gun, Issac confirmed. "

ABC reported a minute ago that one victim was shot a dozen times and is in "stable" condition.

FWIW there's a photo in "Street Survival" by Ronald Adams, et. al., depicting what one looks like when shot 33 times with a 9mm

I saw the security cam video on network news tonight. All I could tell was that it was striker fired and black. Video wasn't good enuf to tell what brand.

Here is a little more info on the woman shot 12 times. I can't imagine how she could survive a dozen hits. As Tom T Hall said, God sure must think a lot of her. Prayers sent for His healing mercies.

Louisville woman recovering after being shot 12 times in Cincinnati bank shooting - WDRB 41 Louisville News

LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- A Louisville woman remains hospitalized after being shot during Thursday's mass shooting at Fifth Third Center in Cincinnati.

A release from Fifth Third says Whitney Austin had driven to Cincinnati for a meeting, and she was on a conference call, when she walked through the lobby doors and directly into the shooting. She was shot 12 times.

Three people were killed, when 29-year-old Omar Enrique Santa Perez decided to open fire in the building. Austin was wounded. Another person who was shot was last reported in critical condition.

Cincinnati Police say they have yet to find a motive for the shooting.

Austin, a senior product manager for digital lending, expressed her gratitude in a statement for first responders who helped her. She said two police officers on Fountain Square rushed to her aid and got her out of the line of fire, after she was shot.

"I'm still processing the events from yesterday, the impact to the victims, to me and the community. And I'm thinking about how I can make a difference in the future," Austin said.

Austin remains in stable condition at the University of Cincinnati Medical Center.

"I'm so thankful to the paramedics and first responders and the doctors, nurses and staff at UC Medical," she said.

Austin is married to Waller Austin. They have two children ages 5 and 7. The statement said, "Our family has been overwhelmed by the support we have received from coworkers, family, friends, and total strangers." She said she is grateful to everyone who has offered to help.

"We are so grateful that people want to help and do something," Austin said. Her family is preparing their next steps and will let people know soon how they may help.

Austin has worked for Fifth Third since 2003. She has both a bachelors degree and MBA from the University of Louisville.

*shrugs* Glass isn't magic. Shoot it a whole bunch of times, and bullets get through. The more you shoot it, the weaker it gets.

Why did his gun jam? Because **** happens, and sometimes it happens to somebody that deserves it. Shame it couldn't happen sooner. Shooting one-handed doesn't have much to do with it, aside from the fact that you can suck out loud with two hands on a 9 and the damn things will generally forgive your stupidity. I think most gunmakers basically design their pistols to be limp-wrist'd these days, rather than inform thousands of whiny customers that they're bad at guns.

Anybody notice the officer with the AR on the right side of the female officer's POV? The guy that stops, looks at his rifle, swears, tosses it down, and goes to his pistol? Yeah, I don't think his buddies are ever going to let him forget that time he forgot to bring a magazine :D Still, stressful situation, can't guarantee I'd remember to load anything but my pants.

Were they 10 round mags...

All I heard was that he was carrying 200 rounds loaded in magazines.

How much difference would it have made if he had 10 or 30 round mags? That's why I think that the 10 round mag limit idea is farcical. Some with 10 minutes of practice can drop and change out mags with scarcely missing a beat.

If a person can corral a lot of people in a small place where they can't escape easily and have a good vantage point with some cover that is hard to get to from the back and sides, they could really wreak destruction with about any mag fed weapon. Somebody said, "At least make them stop to reload." but that's no help when a person has a coatful of mags. 10 bangs followed by a 'drop, slap' of the mag and go ten more.

I'm going to time myself at the range with some 10 round mags.

Anyway, I'm going to avoid Taurus. Their semis have been more consistent quality, but that is the fail of an actual field test.

PS: The police officers did a fantastic job of closing in on him and I was really glad to see the guy pitch face down on the floor. Never thought of having a prolonged firefight THROUGH plate glass windows.

Did the police fire prove fatal? IMHO, "Santa" deserved to die. But if he'd lived, he might at least have given a reason. We at least know the motive of the Swedish (Not a native Swede) stabber who targeted two US visitors. Alas, I probably can't mention his origin or motive here without violating a Rule. But Swedish police wounded him, so the rat knows what it feels like to be hurt.

I'm glad the lady discussed above survived, but her language and the quick media support suggest that she's going to become involved in the anti-gun movement. That's a separate pity, apart from the grief otherwise caused by these nuts who target unarmed people in mass killings.

I know a prior Pope was shot many times with a Hungarian copy of the Browning Hi-Power and survived, as may a victim shot many times in this case. That doesn't mean a 9mm is a poor killer. It means that shot placement counts. A man whom I know quite well has killed a number of people with a 9mm in battle, and he never had to fire more than 2-3 times, at most. The late David W. Arnold told me that the 9mm killed pretty well in most cases that he encountered while a senior police officer fighting terrorism in then-Rhodesia. And he was an administrator who saw many combat reports.

Nor will a better maintained Taurus likely jam. When Reeva Steenkamp was murdered by her boyfriend Oscar Pistorius, he shot her through the door to the loo and fired only a few times. And his gun was a more traditional type of Taurus, based on Beretta designs.

I doubt this mass shooter ever field stripped and cleaned his new Taurus pistol, or lubed it right. It probably wasn't broken in well, as is often needed with new auto pistols. This guy shot a lot of people, but generally not in quickly lethal zones. I wish he hadn't shot any. But I don't underestimate either Taurus pistols or the 9X19mm cartridge for his failures to slay.

Physics is hard to overcome. Close to 90% of malfunctions can be attributed to the shooter, and most of those are due to the grip. Shooting multiple rounds one handed is tiring, and an inexperienced shooter is soon gonna be in trouble. Watch the video. That pistol is jumping around like a carp on a trotline . . .

Sorry to bring this up in the wake of a tragic shooting, but this all sounds like a gun control "grassroots" movement in the making.

Putting plenty of hopefully non fatal rounds into people has been done to "make a point" Very fast and effective and extremely painful.

In one country (Possibly Italy) they had a habit of putting a magazine load into someones legs for that reason. It was called a "kneecapping"!

PT 809. 17 round magazine. Hammer fired. Discontinued model still available new in some shops. Current somewhat similar model is called TH9.

Thank God the scumbag didn't know how to shoot and jammed up his gun. Typical gangbanger shooting - spray a lot of lead and hope some of it hits something.

5/3 took over two different banks I did business with. Their customer service in the Columbus area is legendary! It will make a nun go postal!
