What laser should I go with? I am torn between the crimson trace lg 489g green laser and the viridian green laser.

Unless you have serious vision issues, I would say to get neither. Even so, if you really want one, get the green one. It is more visible in brighter light. None are good in daylight, but the green is better in brighter light.

The Crimson Trace LG-489g is an effective unit, with one possible exception. It's grip actuated, hence easy to use, but the switch takes up space near the trigger guard that might be better utilized with an higher grip (better recoil control). Green, red, doesn't make much difference in practice. Both have the same intensity, except green is somewhat more visible. Red won't affect your night vision. I've used both, but will probably stick with red in the future.

Make sure you practice as much or more with the iron sights. Batteries fail and the screws loosen under recoil. In a crisis, the laser might make all the difference you need to stay alive.

I have the Crimson Trace and chose it because of the grip switch, when you grip the gun, the laser turns on, no remembering to turn it on or off. No distractions finding the on switch and no battery drain when out of the holster like the magnetic holster switch styles.

I have the red on my Shield and they later introduced the green. I bough the green CT for my wife's Bodyguard and actually prefer green but not enough of a difference to change mine to green.

I have looked at the ArmaLaser TR4 for my Shield. It has the touch to turn it on and you can replace the battery without taking the laser off of the gun. It costs less than the CT and does not have the bump to have to turn it on.
Here is a link to their website that explains more about it.
TR SERIES

As soon as I save enough I will be purchasing this one over the CT. I have a CT on my FS40 S&W and love it but I cannot get over the bump on the Shield to turn it on. I tried a Shield at Gander Mountain with the CT on it. To me it does not feel right in the hand.

I just received the Crimson Trace for my Shield. Haven't taken it to the range yet, but I will have to change my drawing method slightly. Drawing the way I usually do with three fingers over the grip the laser is activated as I draw the weapon. This might not be a problem in the day time, but at night the laser would at first be light on my right side. I would rather not give a potential bag guy a better target.
