Hi all, looking to stock up on components including powder. I loaded for many years and got out of it for many more. I recently started loading again, past couple of years. I have stuff for all the major calibers but shoot more 9mm than anything else at this point. I've been using Unique and have a couple of pounds left. I also have 4lbs of IMR Hi- Score 700X that I guy sold me during the shortage and said it was good for 9mm.I have not used it. Looking for suggestions on powders. I'd like to start reloading for my revolvers again. 38, 357, 44sp. and magnum as well as .45auto. I have some 231 and 2400 from years ago.

Something around 4.0gr of 700-X has worked for me for years in 9mm with various 115 & 124gr bullets...

Cheers!

P.S. That 4 lbs should last you a VERY LONG TIME!

I just started using Winchester 244 with Everglades 115 gr plated fmj. It’s supposed to burn cleaner and it was readily available and fairly reasonably priced. I tried 4.3 gr at 1.12 oal and was able to keep a 3x3 post it note group off hand at 21 yards so I think it has potential to be pretty accurate. I used to only use unique and bullseye but since they became hard to find and expensive I decided to switch. From what I’ve read it should work with multiple calibers. My other bulk powder purchase recently was win 231 and it seems to work well too. I tried 700x years ago and it was ok for plinking in 9mm but I never really developed a load for it.

9mm is very accepting to shooting well with many different powders. I've used 700x in the past and it shot well but didn't meter the best. Some of the many powders I've shot in 9mm include 231/HP38, Longshot, CFE Pistol, Win WSF, Accurate #2 and #5 for Hodgdon powders. For Alliant powders, I have used Unique, Power Pistol, BE-86, Sport Pistol and Blue Dot. And I've also used Shooter's World Clean Shot, Ultimate Pistol and Auto Pistol powders. BTW, the SW powders meter extremely well too and last time I bought them were less expensive than the big boys, but were a quality product.

Hope this helps you out. :)

From the powders listed, Unique and W-231 would be the best suited for 115 grain 9mm loads. 2400 is really too slow burning for the 9mm.

I use a lot of flake and ball powders for my 9mm and 38/357 loads.

They will all work per their burn rate for certain fps and pressures.

I will toss Red Dot into the circle as a workable powder and it will work from target to 4" fac dup loads with the 115 & 124 gr bullets,

and a bonus powder if you load for a 12 Ga. shotgun.
