What screwdrivers for my S&W ?

Hi, all....
I need to obtain a set of 'drivers for disassembling my S&W's. Midway has a S&W 6-piece set, but I'm not sure if they're worth the price. Does anyone here have any experience with them?

If I buy a dedicated set, then I don't want to pay too much. If I'm going to shell out some dough, then I want to get a universal set for other guns as well.
Some years back I bought a set of the Grace screwdrivers, and had to file down most of the blades to fit the screws of my old shotguns and - needless to say - most of them have broke off.

Any suggestions?

Screwdrivers.....

I picked up an inexpensive gunsmith screwdriver set at Academy Sports and Outdoors that has worked great for my S&W's.

The set is a "DAC Gunmaster" screwdriver kit and includes a single, rubber handled screwdriver and about 30 tips including 12 flathead drivers, phillips, drift pins, star drives and hex. I've found that the tips fit the slots on my S&W screws perfectly. The set sells for around $10 and fit my needs. Look online and you'll see them.

Nothing is worse than using the wrong screwdriver and mauling a screwhead....or worse....slipping out and scratching the gun.

I have a set, about 30 pieces, that is marked MIDWAY. Bought it MANY years ago and was reasonably priced. I would not spend the extra money for a set that is marked S&W. The house brand set will do you just fine.

Harbor Freight may also sell a set, but I would look at it person first. nothing uglier than buggered up screws.

I have the S&W set of 6 with a stand that Midway sells for $23. They take care of all my S&W revolvers quite well. I don't own any S&W semi-autos so I can't speak for those. Blade thicknesses running from narrowest blade to widest are: .019", .030", .024", .034", .040", and .045". Quality is good, not great. Under magnification you can see that the blade tips are not dead flat, and that there is some slight peaning at the tips' edges which can alter the above dimensions. But, I have not found this level of quality to be a deterrent to good work. At roughly $4+ each (with shipping) I think they're a good deal and I'd buy them again. Hope this helps - Bill
