What was your first N frame?

6" Model 57, .41 Magnum, bought in 1979. Has presentation case and tools. I still have it, although it has been 15 years or more since I've shot it. It's wearing Herrett's Jordan Trooper's stocks, but I do have the original Target Stocks also.

My first was an N prefix 4" 28-2 that I found at the local show 10-15 years ago for ironically $282. It had some wear but was not abused, with target grips. I was unfamiliar with the Highway Patrolman but quickly became a fan.
I remembered my Father-in-law had once commented how he'd like to get an old "police-type revolver, maybe a Colt" and decided to help steer him down the right path by gifting the HP to him at the next Christmas gathering. I'll never forget his reaction when he opened the box and saw it. His eyes got as big as dinner plates as he loudly exclaimed with a shocked "ARE YOU KIDDING ME?!?" A great guy and we have hit many gun shows and swap meets in the years since. My SCSW 4th edition came from him one more recent Christmas.

Mine was a M29 6” blue. Odd thing about that gun was the serial number.
Model number and the year it was made. 291977. Traded it a few years later for a LC SMITH 12ga.

Only 1 N frame in my stable. A 1979 vintage 28-2. In its former life, prior to my purchase, this Patrolman was neglected to the point of having pitting and rust. It was in sore need of immediate cosmetic surgery. I admitted it into the gun hospital and enlisted the assistance of the gun doc. The patient tolerated the procedure well and now sports an entirely rejuvenated appearance:

First N Frame S&W was a Model 29-2 Blue with a 6.5 inch barrel purchased it new in March 78. Wished I still had it.

I was a K frame guy for the longest time, thinking the N frames were just gargantuan beasts. Then I read about the "new, 3,000 made only" Mountain Gun (625-6) in 45 colt and ordered one.

Boy was I wrong about N frames! That was a little over 20 years ago I think, and somewhere down the line I swapped it for pristine 1006. I regret that trade, but really like a 10mm too, just too poor to keep both.

Now days I have more N's than I do K's. I think my 25-5 45 colt is my favorite.

My 1st N frame is a model 57. Nickle plated 8 3/8 in barrel. Found in an El Cajon, CA gun shop one afternoon in 1983 with a price tag of $469.99. It was new but it had the forlorn look of an orphan. i had just recently traded a Remington 742 to a friend for an old model Ruger Super Blackhawk that was cosmetically challenged. I wanted a .44 mag, specifically a model 29, but it seemed at the time that they were un-obtainable. I looked at the 57 through it's glass barrier, laying in it's blue lined case un-wanted. i couldn't afford it so i relutantly moved on. i stopped in the store about once a week and that 57 was always sitting there in the same place every time. I swear it started to grow dust. Then I noticed that the price had creeped down a little. This continued over a month or two and when the tag hit $399.99 it called to me. I called up my friend, sold the SBH back to him and went down to the shop. Told the man to bring out the 57. I still remember how cool it was to hold that gun for the first time. I shot it a lot back then but not so much now. Still looks great. The case, not so much. Just bare foam and plastic now, but I still have the papers, tools and all the packing/ shipping boxes. Yep it's the one in my avatar.
