Just throwing it out there as I think about mine...what was your first Smith and Wesson revolver? What's the story behind it? *whisper* Don't forget pics. Apologize for the poor quality of my photo.

If this is the wrong place for this thread, please let me know. Was not able to find a thread like this on the search feature.

My first Smith and Wesson revolver was a model 66-1 that was pretty ratty. My father had bought it about the time I was born used at a local pawn shop for less than a song. It was a police trade-in and still has the police department "Town of blank" engraved in the frame beneath the cylinder when it's closed. It was around the time the cops around here were switching to the semi-autos.

Dad let me shoot it many many times at the range, and wound up giving it to me. I still have it, and shoot it on occasion, and it's sure accurate.

Well,my first S&W revolver was a model 57-1 in bright nickel with an 8 and 3/8" barrel.Sorry no pictures of it though.I bought it a few months after I turned 21.With the long barrel,it shot like a 38 revolver. It was an awesome gun.Sadly it was stolen from in a break in a few years after I bought it.I went right out with the insurance money and replaced it with a 6" model 57-1 in blue.I still have that one. Here is a picture of that one.

My first Smith was a 6" 586 I picked up 2.5 years since then I've added a few more. I should figure out how to post pics.

Mine is a S&W 66-2
I am (was) a auto guy. I was on a local forum and found this gal and fell in love! I had to have her. Yeah that was last week. New to this wheel gun game

My first was a pawn shop purchase my Grandad made for me on my 18th birthday. It was a 4" model 65 that I still have to this day. When I'm gone my boys get my collection but this one goes in the ground with me.

My first Smith was a M&P40c.
My first Smith Revolver was a 66-1. I picked it up in August of 2011. An officer at work had passed away and his wife told the department armorer to get rid of the gun, she didn't care for how much. He sold it to me for $100. That started a nice relationship with me and the department armorer and opened the door for 16 more handguns to come my way since August.. :)

This was my Grandfathers service weapon from about 69-89. I inherited it in 05. It's a model 10-5. My aunt gave me the choice of it or a model 36. The 36 was a sweet little piece, she took it and either she or her sh*t head sons hoped it for dope. I would have paid them 3 times what anyone else would have.

I guess my first S&W was when I inherited my daddy's Model 10. He wasn't much of a handgun guy, but he really liked S&W. As a young whippersnapper, my buddies and I basically tried to memorize the Shooter's Bible and the Blue Book. All the reading and studying showed me two guns that were really unique, somewhat strange, and both made by S&W. The Model 53 .22 Jet, and the Model 52 in .38 wadcutter. I'd never seen either one of them, but I wanted them both!

The first S&W I bought with my own money was a 53 no dash (4 screw) with an 8-3/8" barrel in a presentation case. I was still in college at the time. A few years later, I saw my first Model 52 at the range and I begged the owner to sell it to me. Ten years after that, I bought a Model 14 but gave it away as a Christmas present to a good friend who said it was the first pistol he'd ever seen that he could hit with. I kinda regretted giving it away, but the silver lining is that in searching for a replacement it turned my buddy and me into true blue S&W fanatics. Over the last 3-4 years, I've added a couple of dozen S&W's to the collection and I've lost count of the ones he picked up.

I've gotten in and out of the collecting, reloading, and shooting sports a couple of times over the years. Nothing compares to the fun I've had since I got into S&W's

My first SW of any kind was a Model 10-5

blued, 4" pencil barrel bought in early 2007 I think it was. I was in my early 60s at the time and had just gotten back into guns after a 20 year spell of no guns. I had never done much with hand guns. But I went on a forum and said I wanted a revolver like I saw many cops carrying in the 1950s when I was growing up wondered what that would be. I was told by multiple replies to get a Smith and Wesson Model 10. A bit later I found this one at a gun show and it appeared to have never been fired. It had box, papers, bore brush. The story was that a man had bought it new (it was made about 1975) for home defense and never shot it. He died and his widow wanted to get rid of it and sold it to the dealer I bought it from. I am a poor handgun shooter so I could not believe how decent I could look with such a smooth shooting revolver. I love it and still have it. But not crazy over pencil barrels and I have a nephew who is going to buy it because I just bought a LNIB Model 64 which will replace it. The 64 is a bit older than the 10. I love SW revolvers and also have a 36, 21-4 Classic, 25-11 Performance Center/Heritage Series. Partly also the reason I am selling the 10 is because I want to get a 10 with a 6" barrel.

My first SW was a 6" model 28 bought the day I turned 21. I carried it as my duty weapon when I first joined the sheriffs dept. I later sold it and bought a 4" model 10 and later a 13. After 6 years the sheriff issued everyone a model 66 4". After I had to be medically retired I bought a 4" model 19 as I could not find a 66.

My first Smith was a Model 64 snub in 1981. I had a six inch Colt Python, which was my first handgun. Then I got a license to carry, and the Python was just a bit too large! I walked into the store where I bought the Python and explained my dilemma. The salesman suggested the M64. It was a good suggestion!

1978 my first handgun, was a police trade in S&W model 19 I no longer have it and kick myself for selling it.

I guess my first would be the M&P 357sig i bought a few years ago. Sold it when the ammo got too expansive but have since picked up two 5946, one 4046, one M&P45 and now looking at a 4566 and/or a Model 13

While not exactly mine I called it mine, a WWII Victory Model issued to me while in the 101st ABN 1985-1989. The fact mine was Parkerized and everyone else's was blued got me interested in researching S&W and started a long time interest in them. A few years ago I bought a Victory Model for my collection, most friends thought I was buying it to go with other firearms in my WWII collection but I was actually buying it because of having used one during my time in the Army.

My first handgun was my first Smith& Wesson revolver. My great uncle was a Louisiana wildlife and fisheries lieutenant. He carried he personal 686-3 for a few years before his agency started issuing Sigs. When he started carrying the Sig, he made me a sweet deal on the 686. This will be the last gun I ever get rid of.

I had a .357 for home defense made by one of the lesser companies. It was a solid hunk of steel that did the job. I could hit COM with it at the range but the combination of gun and shooter was not especially accurate.

I had read on gun forums about the S&W K-frames and the wonderful triggers and excellent accuracy of these old guns. So, I was picking up some ammo and asked my LGS if they had any old K-frames.

They had recently acquired a Victory Model. It had horrid-looking plastic stag grips and the bluing was blotchy - (I did not know it was not even supposed to HAVE bluing) - but the man showed me it had the rare and special "U.S.NAVY" marking on the top strap. It was $200, so I bought it.

Ditch the plastic stags for a Hogue Monogrip, and suddenly the gun and I were making holes appear in paper pretty much right where I wanted them to appear.

So my appreciation for S&W revolvers began. I wish I had the funds to indulge this interest more, but just reading and learning about the classic Smiths has been very enjoyable. I appreciate all the information found in this forum and all the drool-worthy photos you guys provide.

My first Smith & Wesson revolver was my 586 no-dash. I bought it on an online auction.

My third S&W / second Smith revolver is my 686 no-dash.
This one was kind of a neat story - I bought it (CHEAP by local standards) in the parking lot of my local Gander Mt. store after the owner turned down their purchase offer on it, and I had just happened to be standing there at the time.

Here is my 586 when I bought it:

Here it is after I gave it some loving & some new grips:
