I really have not been looking to buy a pistol as of late but your family knowing you are a "gun guy" helps.

Out of the blue I was asked if I wanted to buy a S&W semi auto?
I, of course said what is it?

Well, it was a Performance Center 952
I was never the "top tier" kind of guy but I believe this was in 2000

looks like it was handled but never fired. the case has the most wear.

I will keep the monetary details to myself.

The pistol debuted in 2000 and was a Bangers Distribution exclusive, Model 952 (no dash) of 400 units. Yours was in the second run, the 952-1 and was made later than 2000. If it did not come to you with the fired case envelope, an e-mail to S&W can almost surely get you a shipment date.

Mechanically, the only difference is that yours has a functional grip safety that serves to unlock the firing pin where the 952 no-dash did not.

After the run of 952-1 came the 952-2 which wore a very attractive stainless finish. There was also a very limited and ridiculously scarce run of 952-3 pistols which may have been specifically for the Italian market, chambered in 9x21.

My 952-1 is not all too far off the serial number range of yours.

These pistols share magazines with the short lived 3906 and also the 3904 and Value Line 909 pistols.

If you care to investigate inside... you'll find your 952-1 has two ways to adjust the trigger. The pre-travel adjustment screw will be obvious, the over travel adjustment is a little trickier to find!
