The LGS has a 686 Security Special, never really heard of such a thing before. It is a 3" 686 so it has my interest. It is supposed to have an inscription on the side its wearing Pacmayers. No box no docs.

The name makes it sound like some stripped down value based gun made to sell at a low price point?

Is it worth looking after?
Value?

Thanks!

the Model 686 National Security Special was introduced in 1992 and has a 3- or 4-inch barrel

I found this online, not sure about production numbers though......

I think this is (or was) a special run for one of the main S&W importers in Germany, Wischo. It was available for many years, and I bought one new (2003 as far as I remember) through a Belgian gun shop, part of a chain with head-office in Germany.

Mine is a 686-5, 3 inch, 6-shot, front sight without red insert (my preference), and came standard with Nill-grips (again my preference :)). It's a very nice and extremely well balanced gun.

Below is a poor quality picture, not of mine, but very close, and gives you at least an idea. If you want to know more, look for S&W / Germany / 686 on the internet, and you should find some more info. By the way, they were also importing many 'Target Champion' versions of the 6 inch 686 and 617. They have a few extra features for a minor price difference (including Nill-grips, some high polished versions, ...). They are told to have extra action tuning too, but I am not sure about that (most S&W have already very superior actions compared to others).

As stated above the 686 Security Special was made for export to Germany, and most found their way into the Rod & Gun clubs in Germany for sale to military members. They were made with a bead blasted finish, in 3", 4", an 6" and all with round butt frames. The first run was the dash 4 version.

How do I know?? I purchased one during that time (3" model), and saw all the other versions at my R&G in Vogelway.
