I don't know a whole lot about S&W wheel guns, or wheelguns in general, but I happened across a Model 12-3 for $325 and took a chance.
The gun is in overall good condition, tight lockup, seems to have been fired very little. However, there is some minor pitting on the barrel and cylinder, still overall, I'd give it 85-90%. Guy I got it from said it was his mom's and never left the night stand.
Just wondering what it's worth. Trying to post a pic, but not working

Depending on the degree of pitting, it sounds to be a good price for a 4" version and a very good price for the 2". The "pitting" may be superficial and polish off if you are careful.

Forgot to mention, it's a 4" barrel. The pitting has cleaned up with polishing, but not all of it.

If you haven't already, closely inspect the frame where the barrel meets it, especially the underside; the aluminum was sometimes known to crack there.

I know a former Air Force handgun instructor who talks about the Model 12 as a disposable gun. Hey, but at least you could depend on them -- to crack.

I've read about the frame issues. Mine is solid, good to go.
Seems like this happens when you use +p ammo in these.
