Search continues for African antelope that escaped Massachusetts zoo

LUDLOW, Mass. —
Animal control officers in Massachusetts are searching for an African antelope that went missing from a zoo in Ludlow.

The Ludlow Animal Control Department issued an alert on Wednesday about the male eland that escaped Lupa Zoo last week.

Joan Lupa says a fierce storm swept through late Saturday, causing tree limbs to crash down on the padlock that secures the antelope's barn. "They were scared, so probably, they were running around and pushed the door open," Lupa said.

According to the department, the eland was last seen near the Red Bridge in Wilbraham.

This situation plus multiple other similar situations are why I always carry a rifle with full metal jackets of round nose configuration if possible. Also have 5 rounds of amor piercing. Even if I have a varmint cartridge, I make sure I have 10 rounds with Nosler Partitions for big game.

There have been many such situations. Several trained circus elephants have gone rouge and needed to be put down. Several years ago in PA. IIRC, a man with a herd of exotics including a tiger, went off the deep end and released them into to county. Police were having a terrible time putting these big animals down with their anti-personnel rounds from their AR's. The bank robbers in California who were body armored were unphased by police bullets. Even my small Colorado town once had a man that had African Lions, one of which got out of its cage and was wandering around. I may never get to hunt elephants in Africa, but I could possibly hunt them in Colorado.

Several years ago, a man in Muskingum County, OH released his exotic animals. He then committed suicide. The sheriff started getting calls about wild animals on farms and yards. His deputies and citizens began shooting the animals. It was a mess for some time.

Zanesville 2011. I remember it well. Mess is an understatement.
