What's the best OWB holster for a 2" Model 64?

Would like a thumb snap for retention.

I pocket carry a J-frame most times but now and again might want to carry the 64. One more round, heavier and more pleasant to fire, not to mention a greater chance of me hitting what I'm aiming at!

Leather of course.

I put my money where my mouth is so to speak by owning a Simply Rugged Silver Dollar and a R. Grizzle High Country. They both have fine qualities that work for that size revolver.

Neither has the requested retention strap. I believe the Simply Rugged can be ordered with one.

When I had my 64 snubby, I was very happy with my Privateer Leather highwayman - it didn’t have the retention strap, but didn’t need it as it securely held my gun.

For openers, this isn't leather---it's a hard plastic of some sort. The weapon is retained not by a strap but by a spring loaded protrusion that goes into the trigger guard----press the other end of it on the outside, and the gun is free to draw. I've had this for the better part of 30 years--------the gun too, and neither the gun nor the holster shows any wear at all. As an aside, the holster is adjustable for five different rakes in either hip or cross draw----and any belt width.

That's the good news. The bad is it's made by Blackhawk, and doesn't show in their current lineup. Having never needed to go holster shopping, I have no idea of any similar products from any maker. It's labeled as a CQC (Close Quarter Concealment) Holster, and my gun is a Colt Special Combat Government model.

Bottom Line is it's the nearest thing since sliced bread!

Those types of retention holsters have been blamed for people shooting themselves in the heat of an armed encounter.

Heck, Tex Grebner did it while practicing.

I’ve been very happy with the two Enhanced Pancake holsters from Lobo Gunleather that I’ve had for years. One is for 2” J frames. The other was made for a 3” 65, but it also worked well for a 2” 64 that I had for a while (strangely, I could never shoot that one as well as any of my 2” J frames, or the 65.) If you know you’ll never have a 3” K frame you can have it made for just a 2”.

Mine both have a hammer shield, but a retention strap, which is available as an option, would provide the same protection.

Some type of high ride pancake holster. I carried mine concealed for many years in this one. Hardly knew it was there. A hand made one by a police officer colleague back in the 1970s. Still have it and my 64.

And here I'd be blaming the folks who shoot themselves. Well I'm old---and clearly out of touch.

A case on point: Who's Tex Grebner?

Ed is a perfectionist. You won't find sloppy stitching or shoddy work.
He uses heavy leather that retains its shape even in heavy hard use in all kinds of weather.
Delivery is usually about 1 week.
His webpage just shows his most commonly requested work. If you want something different give Ed a call. He's easy to talk to and discuss options.
Best of all you won't be paying the high prices of the commercial makers. He doesn't have the overhead the commercial makers have. Ed does it as a hobby and has been doing it for over 50 years.

My M66 snubby rides in a Kramer #3 I think,no retention strap...holds the gun firm enough to not need it.

Also have a Lobo that is fabulous.

Ask 10 shooters that question and you might get 12 answers. "Best" is somewhat subjective, and may depend on body type and all sorts of things. What I might like may generate profane expressions of distaste from others.

I agree with the R. Grizzle holster. No thumbstrap needed. It’s fitted so you can turn it upside down and shake it and it won’t come out, but easy to draw. He runs about 15 weeks behind but they’re as good if not better than a Milt Sparks for half the money. It’ll last you for your lifetime. Get the GS2 and you won’t have to remove your belt to put it on. He will add a removable retention strap for $20 but it’s not needed.

To me , the perfect revolver for concealed carry and one that is astethetically pleasing is the 2.5 inch Model 10. Very rare. A 2.5 inch model 64 would have been even better! Second best is a 3 inch fixed sight K frame.

Here’s my Bucheimer Concealer C-52LH.
Bought it used many moons ago in a Lafayette, LA Gun Store.
Have carried my 2 1/2 66 in it ever since.

I’m a huge fan of Simply Rugged pancakes for all my revolvers. Reasonable prices and short turn arounds when I order something

I like mine as much as my 66...

I really identify with this comment. My longtime goal was to find a 2.5 inch bbl model 66 and was only able to find a 64-2 so I took it. Now I think I like it just as good as a 66.
