I have a few S&W boxes that I want to sell. I don't want to charge an arm and a leg to cover the cost of shipping, but most of them won't fit in a small, flat rate box ($6.95 itself). The next size is $12.95. To me,that's too much to charge for shipping. Can't send it in a padded envelop because I'd be afraid it could get crushed by a careless handler (mark it "Fragile?). Just wondering if you guys who ship them fairly regularly could offer a suggestion?

When I have questions about shipping I always take what I'm sending to the local post office and talk to them. They seem to always have the answer!!

Cheapest and safest is an oxymoron. You can have either one but not together.

The USPS Priority Flat Rate Box is probably the closet you can come the cheapest and safest. The box has a tracking number built into the shipping label which doesn't cost extra and has $50 of insurance built into also. Only charge the buyer the actual shipping costs. Pass on the to them what the PO charges for shipping. That is only fair.

A box in a box shouldn't weigh very much so you should check out regular Priority Mail. As long as it is lightweight it is usually cheaper than Flat Rate. A lot depends on how far you are mailing it.... (Plus you can get the PO produced boxes for free. Just make sure they say "Priority Mail" and not "Flat Rate Priority Mail"....)

I recently sold a bunch of camera lenses, etc. and I never did use flat rate because the weight was not a factor.
