When does "guns in parks" take effect?

I see Obama signed the credit card bill with the "guns in parks" amendment, giving citizens the right to carry in national parks if they comply with state law otherwise.

My question: The credit card law goes into effect in 9 months. Does this also apply to the guns in parks provision, or does that provision take effect sooner?

Anybody know?

Yes, 9 months from now as written. There are efforts underway to speed it up from Tom Colburn and others.

Sorry for the thread hijack, and I hope this doesn't violate the rules, but one very bad thing that may come out of the new bill from the credit card side is the elimination of grace periods by banks to make up for lost revenue. This means that cardholders who pay their balance in full every month may be charged interest from the date of purchase rather than after the payment due date if the balance isn't paid in full. If this happens, the only way to avoid interest charges will be to not use a credit card. I wonder what the political and other repercussions would be of such a move.

Apparently it does not take effect until 02/10. The disturbing part is the closing quote by the associate director of the National Parks Conservation Association who says, "We are pleased because that provides more time that our parks will remain safe and free from shotguns, rifles and semiautomatic weapons..."

Does anybody know if open carry will be allowed?
For example, in CA CCW in public is generally by permit only, but open carry is allowed in rural areas without a permit. Also in CA, they actually have a good law allowing a loaded gun at hand anywhere you are sleeping, which includes tents, hotel/motel rooms, without a permit. Wonder about that, too.
