I know S&W is making no lock Model 19, mountain guns with no lock, etc.

Any guesses on when we will see a no lock model 29, 629, 69, 610, 686, etc.? You know - the regulars - but with no lock.

He's referring to new ones. I would imagine at least a year. Since they have begun they must know people prefer the no-lock configuration. Having those on the market simultaneously with lock guns would, I imagine, slaughter the value of the IL inventory still out there. Slowly phasing in the no-IL guns would be better for the stocking dealers and distributors.

Yeah I for one am in the market for a 4" model 29, but don't want to buy one with the hole if I can wait and get a non-lock version in the near future.

I completely agree with you that the 'hole' was a bad mistake.

But I sincerely believe that its reliable as the rest of the firearm.

And the distributors and large FFLs are S&W's primary customers at the end of the day.

That being said, it's not like S&W is producing 629s with the regularity that they do with J-frames. Distributor inventory gets low, they ask for more, S&W manufactures a batch.

Yeah, only problem is that locking versions will likely lose value after the non-lock versions are released.
The locking version is not as valuable as the no lock version now!
I tried to do a trade in a pawn shop and the lady knew the difference in value.
Mine was a 6" 686 with the lock and I wanted to do a trade for a 4" 686 with no lock and she wanted $200 plus my gun and I would have taken a big loss on the deal!

Another thing is that the current models are using MIM hammer and trigger and God only knows what other parts are MIM!
