I don't frequent this section too often, but where are the Smith 1911's? I myself really like them. Only have 1 in S&W. Old school blue. Bought it from a private party in 2015. Gun was shipped in 2009. Original box and papers. Had a .22 conversion on it for a couple of years, but went back to A.C.P. only.

So where are yours? Bob

You didn't just specify S&W 1911's, but I can account for a few. S&W E Type.

My long owned Springfield Armory, that AI did all the work on, still a great shooter.

Rock Island Armory 45 Compact, that I had to fit the sights and Beavertail to, a good carry gun.

A Colt Gold Cup, built us by an area gunsmith and still one of the most accurate I have.

A Rock Island Armory Compact 9mm, I only touched up the trigger a little, a great carry shooter.

That is a great looking 1911 Bob. I bought a used E-Series shipped in April 2019 last year and love it. I haven't had it to the range very much but it's a pleasure to shoot.

I have decided that the situation with my S&W 1911SC e-series is not unique. Other than the grip screw getting loose the first month, I haven't had ANY problems with it, it is a real pleasure to shoot, and is accurate. I had a drawing and holstering class pre-covid, and really enjoyed shooting the bullseye out of the target--it was just gone. I am a fan of the external extractor, simply because it works. This is my favorite hand gun to shoot. So any postings would simply be "I love this gun."

I never see new examples. A local shop has one of these in their used case.

A little too blingy for me. Although a grip change would tone it down. If it wasn't a .45, I'd take a harder look. Buy I'm not really a fan of LW .45 frames.

And when I think 1911, I really don't think S&W. More of the classic makers. But I'm sure they're putting out a fine product.

Part of the issue is that this forum is by far the best resource on the internet for S&W first, second, and third generation DA/SA pistols. There are tons of places to talk about 1911s, but there’s nowhere else to have the level of in-depth discussion about these discontinued classics that we have here.

1911 is a great platform. I have a few myself. But this forum is almost a 3rd Gen forum by default because there is no alternative.

I bought a S&W Gunsite 1911 shortly after the model was introduced. Nice pistol but I just prefer the internal extractor so I sold it. The friend that bought it has since passed and I have no idea what happened to it but I know he enjoyed it and carried almost daily. It was 100% reliable and accurate with his ammo choice.

Why did Smith put a full length extractor rod and an external extractor on their pistol??? If it was good enough for JMB t with the short extractor rod and internal extractor that ought to be good enough tor us.

1911SC Gone but replaced

I owned a 1911 SC “Billboard” .45. Loved it put about 2000 rounds of factory RN and HP standard loads through it. Then…after a range date, while cleaning, I noticed what appeared to be a hairline scratch. It was on the right rear frame near the thumb safety cross pin. Upon closer look it appeased to be a crack, and confirmed by a reputable gunsmith.
I contacted S&W, got a return label and sent it in. S&W confirmed it was cracked. They had no replacement frames for this model and offered a new model replacement 1911 .45 of my choice. I picked the current 1911SC Series E, commander. Kudos to S&W, I miss my 1911SC but the Series E Commander has proved as good as the old and looks a lot better than the Billiboard model.
