TCM------Where Eagles Dare!

Yep, me too! You would think after the number of times I've seen it there would be something else to watch on Saturday afternoon! Nope, it continues to be one of the classic movies of our time.

That is a good one, and the main stars, Burton and Eastwood, acted well together. Such egos often collide.

I reviewed that movie in my college journalism class, for the student newspaper. The review earned me the Second Place Award in Critical Review that year from the Texas Intercollegiate Press Assn. I still have that document.

Look at Burton's collar brass when he's in British uniform early in the movie. It's been a long time, but I think I recall his insignia being from the Grenadier Guards, but he mentioned a different regiment. Being originally British, you (Steve) may be able to sort that out? I'm curious.

I remember that one bad guy used a Luger when there was a rash of just P-38's in most other WW II movies. Maybe P-38's work better with blanks? But I enjoyed that.

I not much of an expert on military insignia, I'm afraid.

As for Lugers vs P-38s, I suspect that when films like that were being made the Lugers were safely tucked away in collections. "Please may we borrow your prize Luger for a movie. We'll have to mess with it so it can shoot blanks, of course.":eek::eek::mad::mad::mad: I don't think so.

The P-38s may have been commercial post-WWII Walther P-1s.

One of those movies that, if you catch it on the tube, no matter where you come in, you have to watch it through to the end...

I first saw it in first run when I was a teenager, and it remains one of my all-time favorites. :)

Darn good movie!! Great cast and lots of action. Perhaps Ringo will grace of with some still shots from the movie.

That was Darren Nesbitt w/ the Luger. You willalsosee he had oneof those""Black Widow" lugers too.:-D

And of course the 3rd Reich had Bell 47's.
Love this movie anyway.
Clint double wielding Schmeisser is one of my all time favorite scenes.

BTW, that is one of the most difiult stills to find too.Ive been looking fr at least 15or so years--none avilable.

At least, I bet the stars recalled making the movie. I once talked to Morgan Fairchild about a movie that she'd made some years before, The Seduction. I reviewed it profesionally and got a few slides from the studio, inc. one where she was holding an Ithaca M-37 shotgun.

She had trouble recalling the film!

Good luck on finding your stills.

Great flick. I saw part of it. I didn't realize it was on or would have watched from the start. Yesterday was Glen Ford day on EWST and I wound up watching a bunch of those.

I like most of the movies that have to do with WWII. There is another one that is similar to Where Eagles Dare that is also a good one I want to say it is Castle Keep but don't hold me to that one.

Mad Magazine did a spoof on it--they called it "Where Vultures Fare." There was a block in it showing Clint Eastwood hanging out of a cable car firing a machine pistol that had a magazine about five feet long. Classic movie--can't count the number of times I've watched it.
