Hit the link and hear, "Amazing Grace." But look at the Queen standing before a memorial wall at 0:21 and see if you recognize where she is. This is in the next scene just past where the people are at a ceremony with a Ghurka and an Australian in the front row, so get ready when you see that.

Anyone know where she was, and what was the name of the memorial?

And what is the stone tower at 0:36?

Please excuse any commercial at the first, and then watch if you like as the video segues into scenes from, "We Were Soldiers", one of the two movies that I wish I'd made if I produced films. The other that comes readily to mind is, "The Last of the Mohicans", the 1992 Michael Mann version of the book by James Fennimore Cooper.

Thanks.

I googled Queen Elizabeth at memorial wall (images). This came up:

WOW! I couldn't get through it. Amazing Grace always gets to me especially when it's played on the bag pipes. But that music while viewing those images just really hit me hard. I'll have to come back to it when I'm alone to really make the emotional connection that I want to make. And let the tears fall....

That is just awesome. Beautiful. Deeply moving. Anyone that can watch and listen to that and not be moved must be dead inside.

I just returned home from a funeral, turned my tablet on and saw this thread. My hair is standing up all over again.

Laid to rest was my brother's FIL. He served aboard a destroyer in WWII. There was a naval honor guard at the graveside. Their flag ceremony was as finely honed as anything I have seen.

A grizzled CPO played taps with so much heart that he wept. Being the only veteran there, I could not hold back my tears.

I know this post is about "Amazing Grace" on the pipes but today I was proud to belong to that most sacred of fraternities...the soldier.

Thanks for the post.

This just astounds me. This board has some real talent when it comes to finding things on the Net. Thanks so much.

I did guess Little Round Top when I saw your Gettysburg link. Good read!

And I recall when the Irish terrorists blew up Lord Mountbatten's yacht. Tragic.

What a powerful rendition of Amazing Grace. I often wonder if the writer of this song ever realized just how powerful this song would be in years to come.

You are very welcome. Glad I could help.

A few years after we moved to Michigan (1982), the Argyle & Sutherland, and 42nd Regiment, Black Watch, came to Detroit during their U.S. tour. I hadn't seen them since they had toured the U.S. in the 1950's.

During the performance the Argyle and Sutherlanders played tributes to the American Services. It seemed odd, that the band omitted The Marine Hymn. Not to fear, the Black Watch pipers and drummers entered, playing the Marine Hymn. The next day, I asked a Marine veteran why the honors were played on the pipes. I was advised that the Marines had pipers for years.

Near the end of the performance, a lone piper played "Amazing Grace", in honor of Michigans fallen war veterans. To this day, I get teary-eyed just remembering that lone piper in the spot light.
