OK....I've been looking at clothes on ebay...does anyone have any experience buying designer label suits, new, with tags (NWT) online from somewhere other than ebay? Like Hugo Boss, Armani, etc???

I tend to hit the Hickey Freeman sale in Rochester once a year. I find that getting things properly tailored if not bought at the shop gets somewhat expensive.

I also use a small tailor outside of Toronto. They send me swatches and I just tell them what I want...three-four weeks later it's at my door. If you buy many tailored shirts, pants and suits cozying up to a tailor will save you in the long run.

I've never even considered buying suits on line but good luck Max!

I used to have an Armenian tailor who was GREAT. He had a little shop in the back hallway of a big mall. Literally, in the back hall, no storefront. He would get me suits that people didn't pick up or pay for or that fell off a truck, I don't know, but he did magic with them and they felt great and looked great. I haven't found another like him since he died. Why did you have to die, George!!!! WHYYYYYYY!

Jos. A. Bank

Unless you are absolutely committed to "designer labels." may I suggest Jos. A. Bank Clothiers? They are in most states and online service is simply exceptional.

Do check for sales...there are such regularly.

I wholeheartedly recommend them; Brooks Brothers is also an option. You can find them in many airports as well as brick and mortar stores.

Be safe.

PS:

Bank's Traveler Collection shirts are all they are cracked up to be! Very nice...and do NOT have to be professionally laundered.

My suits are "wash and wear" so I really can't help you. Good luck in your search.

I'd be very wary of counterfeit in those channels. The annual sales at a reputable outlet seems like money better spent.

I agree. My Dad taught me to buy the absolute best you could get for your money. That means I shop the big stores in the mall when they have their clearance sales. I rarely buy anything that's less than 60% off. I've also purchased from Jos. A. Bank and have been pleased with what I got, but again, wait for the sale. If you buy anything online, you will have to have a local tailor fit it for you, so why not just buy local?

MaxLman,

I'm with Kozmic on this one...Hickey Freeman...Excellent material, cut and fit...They are on the pricey side, but good clothes never go out of style, and will last so long, they could be your burial suit......

I have three Hickey Freemen suits, and one of their top coats. Can't say enough good about them.

You'll soon be looking for an excuse to go somewhere, just so you can wear them.

Google up..Hickey Freeman, and you'll be able to find a retailer in your area. Also, try googling up...Fine Men's Ware...or Fine Men's Clothes. There should be some there in your area.

Add to your wardrobe...a pair of Allen Edmond shoes. Most comfortable shoes you'll buy, and they're some of the last Made in the U.S.A.

Next, you need to cover your head..A Scala or a Kenwood, both made in the USA, to finish out your your wardrobe.

You'll look like a million dollars.

Stay away from the Men's Warehouse...That stuff is terrible...

Oh, and don't forget to put a handkerchief in your pocket...Makes for a nice final accessory.

Shop local and get your suit fitted where you buy it. Either Nordstroms or Brooks Brothers is a great option. Any Nordstroms will have a good selection of suits. Sadly not all Brooks Brothers, shops are strong on suits or sport coats, but if you can find one that does stock suits you should be in for a treat. You may also want to try J. Press for the classic sac suite.

There are some sellers on ebay that are reputable. If you know your brand and size a NWT can be a great deal. I have bought Hickey Freeman suits online NWT for under 400, these are 1200 to 1600 dollar suits. Get them tailored locally and look like a million. Warning, once you get a taste for suits like that you will never go back to Jos A Bank or Mens Warehouse.
