Online I have bought from grabagun & buds guns. Both have been outstanding for me.

Perhaps check out Palmetto State Armory's site and sign up for their daily deal emails. I have seen some pretty good pricing on Shields in 9mm so maybe you'd get lucky on a 40 there.

I regularly look at Slickguns handgun deal page: Handgun Deals | Slickguns
You can narrow it down by caliber. Notice that Lanbo's has the .40 Shield w night sights for $384. That's not bad, only about $50 more than the lowest you're likely to find the regular sight version.

As mentioned
Grab a Gun and Buds have good deals,(I never purchased from them)
I found a few LGS and the deals I get are close to online and sometimes better.. A Lot sell for 10% over cost plus no shipping fess or FFL transfer fees (20/35$ avg. )to add on like on line orders! The Plus on local purchase is face to face people, plus my LGS will ship my gun back to dealer for me if needed. Save me the hassle!

As Radco mentioned is what I have found. Most times when I price guns online it comes out only $20 or $30 less than local stores after you add transfer fees and credit card fees. I feel better dealing locally and it's faster. Of course there's always an exception.
Wait for Black Friday deals at Cabela's. They had some super deals last year.

Your local gun store and range is a good place to start. If you are wanting to check out how a certain gun feels and shoots, rent it first.

Many LGS&R's will even give you a free membership when you buy a gun from them. This could make buying your favorite gun a real bargain!

I always buy local , from a brick and mortar shop where the owner knows my name. I want to see , feel , hold and examine the proposed purchase.....anything else is buying a pig in a poke.
And if I have a problem with purchase, the dealer will make it right.
He wants me to be a happy customer.

Have to agree. Local place would be best in the long run. May even be slightly more than online but having somewhere to go with issues, questions, ordering parts, etc.... all worth the peace of mind IMO.

I prefer purchasing online as it's more economical...no tax and prices are generally much cheaper than LGS. ALthough supporting local shops is always a good gesture.

If it's a SW you are purchasing, you do not need to involve any LGS after purchase as SW will take care of any issue/complaints hassle free.

I have a FFL that does free transfer. You have to factor in tax, ffl fee, and shipping cost.

Whittaker Guns, Palmetto, Buds, Grabagun, and check slickguns for pricing.

Gunbuyer sometimes have great prices but their FFL process is a hassle with no FFL database.

I bought my Shield at LGS. At the time, they had several in the store. I got to try out three different ones. I picked the one with the best trigger. Can't do that over the web.

I am going to pursue some information that I have received. I understand one of our LGS have received some .40 calibers S & W pistols as police trade ins, and are in excellent condition. They were reworked by S & W, and the price that I understand is very reasonable. If information is correct I will post on thread. The gun store is very reputable.

Appreciate it I'm asking for one of my friends He currently runs a 40 Ruger and Its like a brick he's shot my 9 and averything is the same but calibers I've talked him into coming over to the dark side.

Bass Pro is having NRA Freedom Days thru the end of July. No sales tax! Their prices are usually higher than any online gun shops, but something to consider.

I've bought guns online from Grabagun and Gunbuyer. They were great experiences. The guns were better priced, shipped fast, with no sales tax and came in perfect condition. Most of my past experiences with LGS have not been great. They just seem to think that a brand new gun that is beat up is ok. If I'm buying a new gun I want a new one. If anyone is going to beat it up it will be me.

When possible, I always by from my LGS. They know me and call when something I like comes in, listen to my complaints and do what they can, help maintain my guns, advise of me of shooting events in the area, and keep ammunition of my calibers aside for me at pre-panic prices throughout the "droughts". A gun will cost $20-$50 more than Academy, but I get more than that back in service. I would look to build a relationship with a good LGS rather than try to get every gun at the rock bottom price.
