Starting to have video problems with the Samsung TV, I called a repairman and was told the problem was the panel and the part alone costs $800 shipped, he suggested just buying a new one. Which brand do you folks use and what are the pros and cons. Outside of lousy audio the Samsung was a good tv, only lasted about 5 years but I guess that's normal these days. Thanks for any advice.

I've got a Samsung F8000 55" I LOVE that replaced my Panasonic GT30 55" plasma (that I loved but got burn-in).

I know you don't want to hear Samsung as a recommendation but that's what I'd recommend.

I generally don't buy extended warranties but I did with Panasonic and got every penny back to put toward the Samsung F8000. Money well spent in that instance.

Ive had nothing but loads of troubles w/ all samsung products especially their tvs and cell phones. Once these two devices die? Ill be replacing with T-Mobile and probably Toshiba, RCA or whatever?

I currently have four Sharp TVs in the house. The largest is 60", the smallest is 32". They range in age from 8 years to 6 months. Never had an issue with any of them. I would buy another if needed.

Great service out of my 60"(?) Vizio thus far. 3 or 4 years in, zero issues, still looks great as the day it came home. One of the earliest of the adaptive-LED full backlight sets.

Honestly ... when looking into anything electronic today .. one would do well to visit sites like Newark, or Digikey ... its geek land to be sure and most would not know what to do with most of their wares. However, a little browsing might lead one to the depressing realization that all your off the shelf electronics are born from the parts bins of these suppliers.
at which point ... you'd be right.

the difference is the price point to which these parts are assembled. You'd be far ahead reading reviews at Amazon on these things than adhering to the old conventions of brand loyalty.

Sound quality out of a new flat screen .... BWAAHAAAAHAAA ... forget about it. Space constraints and the laws of physics say you'll never find it and its best to just use any flat screen as a monitor while letting a decent stereo take care of the sound.
Dont waste your money on any of that THX snake oil either ... I think I saw one show in the past several years that actually made proper use of dolby surround ... Most of the time they don't even manage to get the dialog routed to the center channel.
Stereo .. between 40 - 80W into a half decent set of speakers is all you need or want

It's quite a jungle to wade through these days. I've used Samsung for years (TV & comp) but may or may not buy another. You really have to look at various sources (especially user reviews) but LG has the consumer reports top rated TV right now (in several size categories) over a crowd of Samsung, Sony and Panasonic models. Not to many years ago I would not even have considered LG (formerly Goldstar) but they are edging Samsung in TV's, appliances and others.

I tend to favor all things Panasonic and that's what's setting in the living room right now. I think this is our third one now and I'm on my second Panasonic surround sound receiver. None of them ever broke we just got spoiled and upgraded and either gave away the old stuff or sold it on Craigslist.

LCD/LED, 1080p and 120hz.

Samsung, Sony, Vizio, LG and Sharp.

Doesn't necessarily need to be a "Smart TV". I don't use the internal wi-fi on any of my TVs because I prefer AppleTV. And a lot of Bluray players are wi-fi anyway.

Before making the final decision, you might want to stand at least 45 degrees off center and make sure the picture doesn't fade or start changing colors.

Very happy with a 47" Sony Bravia but my son has an LG which has the sharpest picture I have ever seen. I think you would be happy with either one but only time will tell on durability.

Panasonic announced they are ending production of their plasma TVs. That is a disappointment they were the best after Pioneer quit several years ago. But there may still be hope.

I was at Best Buy the other day and asked the manager about it. He said that Panasonic is only quitting on the low end TVs, they are still going to produce the high end (expensive) ones. Hope so, I've been thinking of getting one of last of them.

I have a 55" Samsung and a 55" Toshiba. Both work fine and have a nice picture.

Be careful if you buy one at places like Walmart. Their versions often have fewer features than similar models of the same brand found at other stores (number of inputs, etc.).

I have a Samsung Smart Plasma Tv that is wireless the height of the TV is 55' and it works really well. It tells me when there is a update or when the Smart App's needs to be updated as well. I have owned the TV for about 4 months now and never had a problems with it.

I have had a 47"Vizio LCD for four hears and the only complait I have had with it is the sound isn't very high quality. I hooked it to the stereo and it sounds great. The picture quality is very good.

Just purchased three Vizio's, a 55" a 47" and a 22" from Costco. They come with a 1 year manufacturers warranty, Costco gives you a second year free, and if you buy it with the American Express card they extend it another year. So you have a full 3 year warranty and the Vozio's are great.

Sony from RC Willey lasted 5 years ....had an extended and they gave me $880 credit when it went bad

2012,Got a Samsung 51" Plasma 3-D that did not last 23 months !!

Will go with Sony or Vizio for the replacement and no 3D or plasma !!
That is a sucker's bet............
