Dunno' about matching FDE, So I cant help you there. However Orange looks very good with the FDE add ons on a 15 22. On the 2ND photo, I dont have the Iron sights on it any more, I now have Magpul FDE MBUS as the front and rear replacements, but with a orange front sight post, the orange looks like it belongs on my rifle. ( 3rd picture) Sorry I couldnt help, but wanted to show the color (to me at least) that looks good on the 1522.

That does look cool. I was kinda thinking about doing the coloring in the same as FDE, and maybe OD Green as well. Just to do something other than the white and red that's so prevalent.

I just went thru this. on my M&P pistol the Gold color looks best

But on my rifles with Magpul stuff it doesnt match as well:

Hmm, wonder if some brown and that gold melted down and poured over the lettering would make the gold a tad' bit darker to better match the FDE? Just a thought.

Interesting, I hadn't considered gold. You're right though, it doesn't match up well on the rifle. Sure looks nice on the pistol though.

My kids have every color of crayon known to man, I just don't have any FDE furniture to compare them to.

as for the OD green match up. i used Crayola "Olive" green, but it was still brighter then Olive Drab. i still like it alot though, its close enough for me. plus i wanted to do something different then the white/red as well

Hey guys, been lurking the forums for awhile, first time post. I've had my 15-22 for about a month now an have the bug. Thought I'd chime in with this, since I did it the other day, Crayola "Tumbleweed" matches FDE pretty close.
I have another close up picture with my FDE MBUS to compare with, but the file is too big and I can't downsize it from my phone. I will post more pictures in the picture thread later.

So you just smash the crayola over the letters? What is an easy remedy to remove the crayola off the spots you don't want it on?

No, you rub them across the lettering until it fills the groove.

A little WD40 will remove crayon from the surface.

WD-40 works great for areas that are not recessed (I spray a little on a cotton facial pad). For recessed areas, toothpicks work well.

Search for tacticrayola here or on google...

I have used gold to simulate FDE. It looked Ok.

After reading about Tumbleweed, I dug in the tactical supply cabinet, found my box of tactical color alteration devices, and what do you know Tumbleweed!

Guess I have more tactical color altering to do this evening!

:D

Gonna go digging through my sons crayons lol.

Ok got it done. Looks dope. Thinking of doing this to my AKM.
