I have a S&W model 14-3 that I am wanting to set up for ppc competition. With the classic 2.7 grain bullseye load or 158 gr 3.0 grains of bullseye ,I am
shooting 2.5 to 3.5 inches
high with the rear sight bottomed out. So I need a higher sight. Has anyone done this using a Dawson fiber optic
and if so what did you get? Were you able to shoot other standard loads by moving the sight up? I
did the calculations that Dawson suggest and it appears their tallest sight may not be tall enough.

This is exactly why S&W makes rear sight slides in several different heights! Changing the front sight is the hard way to do it!

Saa, for the set up on my model 14-6 distinguished guns and others we used the .196 rear slide/ old model 41 sight slide i think, and then at least a .278 front. That allows enough adjustment. for a neck hold at 50 yards. If you are not going to use a 50-yard neck hold, you could use a shorter rear.
I haven't competed for a few years, and rules change, but fiber optic fronts on S/W revolvers were not allowed for the Distinguished match, maybe now they are. If just setting the gun up for the open class, then Dawson can fix you up with a .280 front F/O should be good with the .196 rear. I always shot with standard .125 width front sights, even on my Davis guns, but that is up to you. Feel free to contact me if you have more questions.

Thank you for the replies. Main reason I want to go to a f/o is so I can see the front sight. I am at the age my eyesight can't see iron sights very well anymore. I will keep the rear blade idea in mind though. That might come in handy too.
