I used a YHM micro gas block for my Nordic Rifle length free float handguard on my Sport. I really liked it. and it worked well.. is the OR carbine length my brain is not functioning?

Yeah you want one of the Micro's they fit well underneath the longer handguard and work very well, I have also learned through trial and error that You want a steel one just due to the fact that steel and aluminum expand at different rates, I have had one of each both not Yankee Hill but an aluminum and a steel and I could see a little seepage from the aluminum one. Now I have steel ones on both AR's but YMMV

Would it be more economical to purchase the M&P 15T that already has a low gas block on it? I would bet you could sell the rail from the 15T to recoup a little cash, and I think the 15T and the OR are going for about the same cost.

Just a thought that might save you a step, plus you get the 1:8 twist melonite barrel going that route.

Now that i am looking at it, that makes a lot more sence, i just hope i can find one in stock some where because it will only be about 100 more dollars to get the T.

Where have you found a $900 15T?

Wow, I didn't think the 15T was more than $100 more than the OR either...but again, you can sell the rail and the Magpul BUS if you want different sights.

Good luck and happy hunting!

While the M&P 15T has the low profile gas block and FF rail qalready installed, it may have a chrome lined barrel instead of melonite, so you may be giving up a little accuracy. The grab a gun site lists it as chrome lined but S&W lists the 811041 as having a meloite treated barrel. I would verify before ordering.

If you want those features, it's a good deal.

The accuracy thing is purely anecdotal. Please offer actual proof of the superiority. Chromed lined bbl.s have been getting sub MOA groups for years. The melonite bbl.s seem to be very good replacements for the traditional chrome lined bbl. s but their accuracy being better is opinion in the absense of actual testing which I have not seen (and doubt any here have either).:D

New purchasers can rest assured that the accuracy will depend more on THEM than which bbl. they happen to be shooting with.

If it is the chrome barrel one (the old 15T) then it is a steal! The Troy rail would sell easier than the one that is on the newer 15T, plus the Troy sights are more expensive than the Magpuls on the newer one. I don't care for Magpul sights, but have never used the Troy ones.

Since my organization, Louisiana Shooters Unlimited, is actually in the process of a comparison evaluation that we set up in consultation with the Ballistics Testing Group, I have personnally gathered data which supports the assertion. I grant you that we will need to gather more data to make a definative determination, but we are on a path toward getting enough real data to say for sure.

That's a month old ad.

Out of Stock.

It looks like Palmetto State had them for $899 two weeks ago. You might keep an eye on them.

When I linked it, they still showed in stock when I went to the store site. Like anything else black rifle....here today, gone tomorrow!
