I have an opportunity to buy a M28-2 in very nice condition. Just wondering if I should snatch it up or hold out for a M27. I should mention I have a M29-2 as well. TC

This is an individual decision that depends on what you plan on doing with it. They are basically the same save the "no frills" finish (matte vs. deep blue and checkered vs plain top strap) and restricted barrel lengths (28 only comes in a 4 or 6 inch) on the 28. I like both. I collect 27's (I have four) but I shoot my only 28.

The model 27 and 28 will work exactly the same, so the question is one of form or function. If the price is right and you don't mind it is not super-shiny, I'd vote for buying the model 28.

I have a Model 27, but if someone offered me a nice 28 and I didn't have my 27, I would not wait around and pass it up. To me the only Model 27 I would buy right now would be a 5-inch. Other than that I would snag a Model 28 if I wanted a .357 in 6-inch length.

If you want the best looking revolver made by S&W then the Model 27 is your answer and to me the 5 inch is the best choice based on Balance and the 3.5 inch for just all out sexy looks.
The Model 28 is a great utilitarian revolver with matt blue and non-checkered top strap with the same mechanics as the Model 27 without the good looks.

I don't know if this has been said already but buy that sucker and use it until you find a 27 or by then keep it and buy the 28 a friend

I have a 4" M27-2 that is in about 99% condition. As a result, I've only carried it a couple times.
I have two 4" M28-2s. I'm carrying one now in an IWB holster. The Highway Patrolman is the working man's revolver. The M27 is a good shooter, but I don't want to mess up that beautiful finish, so it gets babied.
My advice, buy 'em both, you'll thank me.:D

27's are the sissy version of a Highway Patrolman M28. :D

OK, full disclosure... I just don't have a 27 yet... :(

Don't pass up a good deal on a 28. When you're looking through the sights, you won't know the difference. I own both and shoot both. It's a good situation when you can't make a mistake. Good luck.

You can not make a mistake owning either but the truth is the Model 27 is a lot better looking and the difference is would you rather date Rosanne Bar or Sharon Stone.
