I've made my decision but wanted to share a few pictures of
my Austin Police Department .38/44 HD.
This one shipped in June of 1952 but when i found it at a LGS
it had transitional replacement grips with no Diamonds.
It is my belief that the original grips were broken when the
Austin Police were storming the tower to capture Charles Whitman, (that's my story and i'm sticking to it).:D:D:D
Anyways, the gun needed something besides the transitionals
so i tried a pair of Kuracs and a pair of extended butt Spegels.
Here's a few pictures of the HD wearing both.

And wearing the Spegels

The Kuracs for sure. Magnas were the original type grips plus the
fancy Spegels just don't go with the overall look of your vintage
revolver. Look at the contrast between the grips and the finish on the
hammer and trigger. And BTW no butt-ugly piece of polished pot
metal needs to be on this hefty all steel vintage revolver.

Don't like the Spegel grips on the gun. They seem to overpower the look of the gun...diminish it in some way.

The Kuracs are prettier and look more traditional, plus they follow the design lines of the gun better. They belong on the gun.

This is just my opinion, you understand.

IMHO...neither look correct for that gun..........both are great looking grips and I'm a Spegel Boot grip guy!

How about ........ a set of

Executioner's Stags with polished t-grip adapter!

NOW we're talkin !!

Buy an old junker set of factory grips to harvest the medallions and send them along with the magna-type grips back to John to have the medallions installed in the grips. The Spegels, very nice themselves, would probably look better on a newer vintage gun.

IMHO: a pair of original Magna grips would look better

As we speak,
( DWFAN ) has a correct pair of diamond magnas he is working
his magic on. They will be the grips for show.
I promise to post pix when they are ready.
I've decided the Kuracs (John Culina) grips will be my "shooter"
grips at the range.

I would also like to find some nice Stags.

Done and done.
I'll post pix when he is done with them.

I think it needs a crisp set of magnas, and a Tyler T.
