Which M&P 15 do I buy to shoot the tightest groups possible out to 200 yards? S&W unlike a lot of the custom guns does not tell you they guarantee 1 MOE @ 100yds where as I would like Sub MOE. I like the 15T, 15TS and the VTAC II but if another model would shoot tighter groups I could learn to like it even better. I was a long range varmint hunter in the 60s and shot very accurate bolt action rifles and want a M&P to do some shooting now. I own a bunch of M&P pistols and shoot every day but my house is paid for this summer and think it is time for a rifle. Also .223 or 5.56 I know the chamber is the same but the throat is different.

I've shot 5-rd 1 MOA groups at 100 yds using factory 223 ammo with my M&P 15 MOE Mid. My range maxes out at 100 yds, so I can't report on longer distances.

The MOE Mid and VTAC II share the same barrel that has 1:8 twist with 5R rifling, so I would expect similar accuracy results from both rifles.

I've measured the barrel on my MOE Mid, and it's closer to 17" in actual length.

I am liking the MOE Mid I think it will be my pick but I have a few months yet before I buy it.

I have the VTAC II and love it! It shoots better than I do. I have not shot out to 200 yards yet. I plan to this year though. As to .223 or .556 caliber.. Get the .556. You can always shoot .223 out of your .556 but you can not shoot .556 out of your .223.

My "stock" 16" M&P 15 OR at 300 yards. The only real enhancements are 3-9 scope and free float handguard. Ammo was reman 62 gr FMJBT. Twist = 1:9.

My M&P 15 psx piston AR works flawlessly on a consistent basis. It likes 62gr (weight on mine is more important than brand but Buffalo Bore is my favorite) it has the 1/9 typical twist 16" m4-type set up and moa or less is easy with real glass (not a red-dot) nikon m223 works well for me. I don't think the piston set up is available as a complete rifle anymore but you can get the piston upper. I paid $750 for the upper and put it on my m&p 15 lower I actually WON IN A DRAWING! Works great. I have heard however that a free-floated DI rifle is more accurate than my piston, and I have witnessed this to be true. I still love my piston gun and will never go DI again except on my M&P 10. I go with the Nikon m-308 bdc on the .308. I go with the .308 for long distance anyway. Happy shooting (safe especially!) I love my m&p product(s), Smith & Wesson seems to have great quality (as far as I'm concerned) and a lifetime warranty (transferable I think?) so there ya go. Be safe, have fun, and pray for a Zombie Apocalypse to happen soon! Or maybe just get those crazy "bleeding zombie targets" and pretend...
