Dear Smith and Wesson Forum i have a question for my fellow forum members if you could only have one carry revolver as your ccw gun which of the following guns would you carry.
1. s&w model 60 with a 3inch barrel
2.s&w model 64 with a 4 inch barrel
3.s&w model 642 with a 2 inch barrel

Up until a few months ago it was a 642 for me.

Then I came across a lock free 3" model 60........ After it passed the carry weapon test, it has become my number 1 carry revolver. Nice and accurate, easy to carry, easy to manage even with .357 loads. It almost instantly became one of the guns that I'll never sell.

I would do the 642 because I perfer 2" revolvers for ccw over 3 inch....but the 60 is a great gun...4" revolvers are a bit cumbersome...

For pocket carry, the 642. If I were to belt carry it the 60. So I guess it depends upon what your preferred method of carry is.

I carried this old model 60 from about 1970 untill 2,003 when my truck got stolen with it in it! I had replaced the hammer with a model 36 hammer that I had snubbed. The hammer also was flat and checked on top to where I could carefully shoot it SA if wanted. I always just carried it in my front pocket. It being stainless I seldom cleaned or babyed it. I did shoot it every time I went out playing with my other guns if only for a clinder full. I could bounce a can all over the place with it. It was my all time favorite pocket gun. I replaced it with a old model 40. I liked the 60 better, but I havent shot the 40 a fraction yet what I did with the 60.

My daily carry is either the 638 (humpback shroud) or Colt Cobra w/bobbed hammer. I much prefer the lightweight .38's and almost never carry on my belt. I had 30 years of belt carry as a LEO and found it better either IWB, pocket or ankle off duty and now retired. One thing, practice often with these J frames.

3" Model 60 in a IWB holster. The 3" points faster and better. Added velocity, and better accuracy due to a longer sight plane.

Love my Model 60-4

of you choices, if I could have only one it would be the 642 for the sole reason of pocket carry.

I have the Model 60 in 2 1/4 and use it as my daily carry weapon with an IWB holster at about the 3:30 position.

The model 60 w/3" barrel, since it's one of your choices. The revolver that I carry most often is a model 66 w/3" barrel in an OWB pancake at 4 o clock.

I usually carry a 2" M60, and for whatever reason, if I feel the need for a .357 I will carry my 3" M65. I do not use a .357 to carry .38 Spl. loads in. It makes little sense to me to carry extra weight and bulk to use a .38 spl. load in a heavier .357 gun. Some will say it is easier to control a less powerful round in a larger gun..........true, but to me that says there was not enough practice time put in with a lighter gun. Shooting even stiff +P loads in an all steel J-frame can be quickly mastered, it just takes a bit of practice.

My mantra has always been to carry the smallest and least bulky gun that will shoot the load I want to carry, and that I can proficiently control. I learned this when I first started carrying 32 years ago. I was big into the "gun magazines" back then, and all the gun writers were basically saying that you weren't a real man if you didn't carry a full sized 1911 .45 ACP. Being a newbie at that time, I went out and bought a Colt 1911 and after a few weeks and a few holsters later, I decided that the 1911 was just not a gun I could CCW 10 hours a day! That's when I got acquainted with the S&W J-Frames revolvers and I have been a Happy Camper every since!

I love my 642 2" barrel, it's light and most of the time I forget I have it IWB.
