Has anybody wanted to bid on ridiculous (like a pre-19 box for $749) auctions just to teach these jerks a lesson?

I'm senile and slow, but how does that teach them a lesson? And to which jerks do you refer? Are you talking about welshing on a bid and having everyone consider you a jerk?

Or am I missing something here?

I have bought rare parts for restoring old cars and motorcycles that I would not have located locally. I have bought from eBay US, eBay UK, eBay Germany, and eBay France. I'm not happy about their restrictions on firearms and related items. Some people have an inflated idea of what their junk is worth, but no one is twisting my arm to pay some ridiculous price.

I've bought quite a few cameras and all except a few were in great condition. One had film in it so I didn't see the problem until the film was removed. A couple of them the meters woulnd't work.

I love Ebay! I have found stuff that I could not find in any other venue. I have found "parts" for projects that I couldn't find for years elsewhere - period. Did I pay some outrageous prices and inflated shipping charges? Heck yea - was it worth it? Heck yea for that last part to complete a restoration. Otherwise - I limit what I pay and pay close attention to shipping costs and seller satisfaction ratings.

Bought and sold many things through eBay. I have had a few minor problems, but overall its a great place to do business. Lots of great deals and customers willing to spend money. The people that really hack me off are the tire kickers and people who question my pricing. If you think my price is too high, move on don't waste my time.

I have bought several reels and revolver stocks on there. Not too bad, just have to check the seller and make sure to ask questions if necessary.

I use eBay for the last 15 years to buy and sell. It's not perfect but I've found things I needed that I couldn't find anyplace else. Just recently a piece of interstate construction debris broke the moonroof out of my nieces 2000 Lincoln Continental. I found a used panel for $140 shipped and a bodyman friend installed it for $50. Works perfect.

As the old saying goes "It's a poor mouse that has only one hole to run to." Take what you need and leave the rest.

I believe it's a ploy to sell a box with a gun under the noses of sleezebay under the wire. It's been done before.

Just because they have a item there for auction doesn't mean you have to bid on it. Maybe it's worth it to someone but I make sure it's a deal or something I can't get anyplace else.

I've bought lots there until their prices got higher then I can buy elsewhere. I still do on item I can't find elsewhere.

It was better before so many businesses got involved, but there is still the odd deal on a hard to find used item from time to time.

For new or like new stuff I can't get local I go Amazon.

Use Gunbroker every now and then, too.

Most everything I've been finding locally, though, and at very reasonable prices, so none listed get a whole lot of business from me.

Ebay started off as a place to get rid of the stuff in your attic and basement and has evolved into a discount retail outlet. Many of the items on there now are brand new and is just another venue for selling over the net. that said, sometimes the prices on Fleebay are absolutely ridiculous so you need to be knowledgeable before buying.

The fees associated with selling items are now gouging sellers. You must accept Paypal and between the listing, selling and Paypay fee, it gets quite expensive. I also do not like the fact that Paypal "holds" your money for over 3 weeks before you have access to it! :(

I have bought a number of bicycle items, usually long discontinued and locally unavailable. No complaints. Curiously, I have on quite a few occasions seen something I wanted on EBay then found it locally at a much lower price.

It's a free market. If you don't like E-Bay don't use their service. I have purchased a number of items there, and had good luck every time.

Some of the prices can be over the top, so I don't bid on them. Some prices are a great deal. I was high bidder, at $35.00, for a Tiffany sterling silver money clip, new in box. Only defect(??) was it was engraved March 2001, no biggie to me.
