I finally found a 4" 31 for a decent price, I've been shooting .32 S&W Long for over a decade but this is my first S&W in this caliber. I've got a pile of .38's and just wanted something different.

I've had H&A's, Iver Johnsons, etc. but finally decided to get something that can handle a lot of shooting.

I'm guessing this was a privately owned guard gun or a policewoman's gun, shows lots of holster carry and it seems unlikely a "regular joe" would choose a 4" for carry. I don't mean to "profile" by saying a police woman's gun but I read that in the 70's some larger city PD's authorized women to carry a 4" .32 instead of a .38 if they so chose to, usually administrative officers that would likely never have to use them anyway.

was out shooting my colt officers target in 32 this afternoon. didn't own any 32's for about 40yrs. now have seven, I think.

.32's are highly thought of my many of us. There is a thread for the "32 Brotherhood" somewhere in the Forum.

Don't look down your nose at the Mod 1 1/2's, they are also fun shooters.

The little older 32 Hand Ejectors also come in snub nose.

The 32 H&R Magnum are outstanding in accuracy with the right load.

I'm sure you will find a few more in your future.

Do I sense a new convert to the 32 Brotherhood? :D

The comment about powder lasting a long time only applies if you don't shoot your 32 two or three times as much because it's so much fun! At last count there were 5 S&Ws in various iterations of 32-ness residing in my safe, bedroom and CCW holster. You might say I like them too! ;)

C'mon over to the Dark Side... we have cookies! :D

I used to own a pile of the old .32 Short S&W break tops, I sold them probably to fund some other "gotta have" gun purchases.....now I'm looking for a nice .32 short S&W again lol

Right now I'm looking for a pre-30 or a 30 snub, not so much for any kind of carry but more for fun:)

I never thought much about a 32 until I got a "To good to pass up" opportunity on a vintage (1920) 32 long Hand Ejector. Now it's almost always with on a trip to the range.

I got my first I-frame 32 Regulation Police (nickel, 6") in a friends and family deal from someone who was getting older and just wanted to pass it on. About $50 back in the early '80s, IIRC. My real interest in the small frame 32s really took off about 4 years ago when I bought a post-War 32 HE snub and an older 22 HFT within minutes of each other at a local gun show. It's been downhill ever since! I'm sure glad I reload for them and yes, I still have both of the 32s mentioned and shoot them (especially the snubbie) fairly often.

I love .32s. I buy up every one I find at a reasonable price. Here's the current stable:

round butt .32 H.E.s:

M1903 1st change .32 H.E 6" (1906)
M1903 .32 H.E. 4 1/4" (1904)
pre model 30 3 1/4" (1952)

Model 31-1s
4" nickle
3"
2"

Pair of 3" 31-1s:

The seldom-seen stainless model 631 in .32 H&R Magnum:

Finally, the model 632-1 in .327 Federal Magnum:

Found this beater in a pawn shop.
Was not really sure of the model until a forum member
kindly filled me in. Regulation Police.
Bore, timing and lock-up all great.
it cleaned up OK. I guess the thing will still shoot. 1920 Vintage.

Love my model 30-1 3 inch. Fun to shoot, I think of it as an overgrown .22.

Little tough to find ammo in stock in NJ but my LGS can order and can get it in a couple days.

One word for you, RELOAD! The 32 lover's defense. ;)

Nobody I know has one. Therefor Never got the chance to shoot 1. Bob

This is just plain sad! :( Maybe sometime when I'm up in OH for an OGCA I can circle by Toledo and let you shot one or three of mine. Do you have a suitable range nearby?

PS Weatherby, I thought you and I had corresponded about you loading and shooting 32s... you seem to have a good answer for bananaman, though. ;)
