I used Curtis Harlow (44 magget) several times and was always pleased with his excellent work. I recently sent Curt an inquiry and was informed that with an approximate 2-year backlog, he's not currently accepting new work. Can anyone suggest a grip restoration specialist capable of working on pre war S&W grips?
Thanks

Thanks Engineer1911 for the recommendation. Maybe it will help if I add pictures of what I'd like to have corrected. I have two sets of pre-war grips. Each set is original and otherwise in nice shape. The one with the crack on top is from an RM. The crack doesn't go all the way to the back & is more cosmetic than anything else. The second set, numbered to a post-war M&P in my possession, needs the space filled where a chunk of wood is missing from below the checkering. (picture of the gun added in post #15)
Probably not earthshaking restoration work, but it would be nice to find someone good enough to do the work with the help of references from this forum.

Unfortunately not able to restore

Masterbuck54 did a wonderful job for me on 2 pairs of "pitiful" grips.

Doc,
Not sure who you sent the two sets to but it wasn’t me.

We had talked years ago about the possibility of you sending me a couple but I don’t recall doing any for you.

Outside of a strip & basic refinish is all I’m capable of doing.

The one with the chunk out of the bottom goes to Postwar M&P No. S816276, shipped in March of 1946 with pre-war grips. The grips number to the gun. According to information I was able to gather on this forum (JP@AK), the pre-war style of grip checkering was used on some Postwar M&Ps till about April of 1946. So the gun is somewhat interesting/unique, especially given the high original condition. That's why I'm motivated to restore the left grip. Here's a picture of the gun:

Possible source

There is a member who had received a quote from this company to restore a set he has.

I’ve never used these folks but I guess it wouldn’t hurt to reach out to them.

I’m repeating myself….try Dan Dietrich. His email is [email protected]. He did a beautiful job on my outdoorsman stocks. images are after repair and before repair.

I am hesitant to reply …

I sent a set of prewar stocks off to this company a couple of months back. I did a little research and found they do grip and stock restoration.

Rolled the dice really. As soon as I get them back I’ll share the results.

There was no major damage but well worn condition with scratches and a few small dents. Sorry no before pics.
